Really enjoyable episode, Crimebuster.
I bought the Longbow Hunters when it came out and, despite some minor criticisms for its lack of narrative focus, I really enjoyed it. It's a weirdly forgettable story for me though; I must've read in at least four or five times since 1987, but if you asked me what the plot was, I'd have been hard pushed to recount it as you did in this podcast. The thing that goes stick in my mind, however, is the artwork. Certain panels and sequences are indelibly etched into my memory.
I didn't ever read the follow-up ongoing series, although my best friend back then was reading it and enjoying it.

Some great observations here, CB, notably on how dated Grell's approach to several of the plotlines and themes appears today . I thought you did a nice job encapsulating the issue of violence against female characters as well.
Looking forward to Part Two!

Thanks!
One thing I wanted to mention is I think I was just a little hard on Grell regarding issue #5. Though the plot is really over the top, his portrayal of the gay couple is very humanistic and well done. There are definitely some crazy aspects to this story that seem ill advised, but he was very sensitive about how he portrayed the couple.

And, even 30 years ago, less common than one might think. I'm going to dig out my copies (unread since they came out), thanks to your review, Scott!
