Very nice, both of those, first I ever heard of either of them.
I thought the 21st Century cover started off sounding a bit like the Bowie/Ronson/Spiders on The Man Who Sold the World, especially the guitar, before veering off into Hawkwind territory in the solo section.
What's the story on Samuele Matteucci? I'm just starting to get interested in Italian prog after hearing a few things on the BBC radio show The Freak Zone.
(edit) oops, this was meant to be a reply to Miss Fantastic's two King Crimson covers, a band called Pressurehed doing 21st Century Schizoid Man and Samuele Matteucci doing Moonchild.

IMO, the Schizoid cover is far and away the best darn thing Pressurehed ever did, because for one thing, it was an actual song as opposed to a plethora of sci-fi sound effects pretending to be a 'song'. I discovered Pressurehed and their Schizoid take via a Hawkwind 'mail order music club' of sorts during the summer of '99 (or possibly 2000, making my discovery fourteen years ago instead of fifteen). When I took part in that, I got a ton of MP3 CDs of Hawkwind of course and a nice collection of other 'sci-fi-delic' rockers, prog and otherwise. One of those CDs contained several Pressurehed songs...I immediately fell in love with Schizoid, but the rest never grew on me due to not really having much of a groove and, at least to me, being nothing but random 'space' sounds strung together. Given that was sometime ago and my ears have matured and acquired further tastes since then, I ought to give those other tracks another shot. I originally thought Samuele Matteucci was simply a YouTube artist who likes to do covers, particularly prog (in addition to Crimson, he's also done a smoking take on the excellent and dreadfully underplayed Peter Gabriel/ Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Genesis tune, "Back In NYC"), Beatles ( "Girl" and "I Am The Walrus"), and even a little Black Sabbath ("Sabbath Bloody Sabbath")...but per the description on the Sabbath vid, he has an album released called Lo-Fi o No?, with the Sabbath track being one of the bonuses. But going back to the Hawkwind mail order deal...that baby was what cemented my being space rock and prog fan for life. And if it weren't for that, I would have never discovered Aphrodite's Child and their album 666, the concept album to end all concept albums, as well as Nik Turner's Sphynx and another fine, FINE album in Xitintoday (which features Nik playing his flute inside the King's Chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza and lyrics adapted from the Book of the Dead). - I feel one song is not enough to represent the sheer astoundingness of 666...and this video features three (technically four, but the first track is an intro segueing into the real first track, "Babylon").

Those Graham Parker LPs were definitely two of my favorites back in the day. The Parkerilla and The Up Escalator are also excellent records.

Wayne "the Train" Hancock is supposed to be coming to Boise soonish. Arguably the best Neo-Honky Tonk/Western Swing performer out there. Can't wait. Sorry to be the one to tell you, Slam, but Wayne was in an accident a little while back and cancelled/postponed the current tour. www.waynehancock.com/Too bad--great singer.

I knew he'd wrecked his bike. Hadn't seen that he'd cancelled the entire tour. He actually comes through Boise ever year or so, so I'll catch him at some point.

A relatively new band that I was recently introduced to Alt-J (also known as ∆) remind me quite of bit of Modest Mouse and Radiohead. Not so much in sound but in shear inventiveness. You can listen to their entire debut album An Awesome Wave on youtube.

Thanks for reminding me of this song (Rock and Roll Jelly.) That's from Clarke's MODERN MAN album, which is a forgotten album of mine buried away in the crates. Traded the Doobie Brothers LIVIN' ON THE FAULT LINE for it.

I'm going to throw in some late 90s UK Rockabilly as my selection for today. Kid Rocker & The Phantoms only had one record put out by Vinyl Japan and I bought the hell out of it. Not the greatest UK rockabilly group to come out in the 90s, but it was a nice combo of traditional rockabilly, surf music and ballads.

Since Wayne The Train is unlikely to be touring soon, looks like the next band I see will likely be The Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Here's a track for a mellow Monday morning. Pelican is a band from Iceland, this is Golden Promises from their 1974 debut.
Sounds like Pink Floyd with a dash of Dire Straits.
