Guardians Of The Galaxy: Dream On was more interesting than I initially wanted to give it credit for, a true throwback to classic Marvel cosmic sensibilities with excellent humor to match ontop of surprising guest appearance that I was totally unprepared for
Had "Dream On" by Aerosmith stuck in my head for the rest of the day

Kong of Skull Island #10
For some reason, I liked Kong of Skull Island a lot more than usual this time around. Maybe I'm just getting used to what it is instead of expecting something else.
The art has always been really good! And I like the idea of the factions and the hostility and the scheming among the Skull Islanders. But in this issue, it came together for me much better than it usually does.
Also, the cliffhanger is pretty awesome.
I'm eager awaiting the next issue of Kong of Skull Island for the first time since I started buying it.

Astro City #43I don't always pick up Astro City. I've been picking it up now and then since it started. I'm so glad I picked up #43. The Bouncing Beatnik! Also, the fascinating origin of The Gentleman, a character to whom I was fairly indifferent until now.

"I Am Bane!" is over. The latest issue of Batman is part of a four-part adventure winding through The Flash and Batman. (Which I didn't buy.)
Rats! I was hoping there would be a Chapter Six to "I Am Bane!" to help explain what happened in the previous five chapters.

The only other new comic book I bought this week was Cave Carson Has an Electronic Eye #7 and, like Kong of Skull Island, I liked it a lot better than usual. The Superman guest appearance was pretty cool.

Power of the Dark Crystal #2 Written by Simon Spurrier Art by Nicole and Kelly Matthews Summary:While Thurma's arrival creates chaos at the Crystal Castle, Aughra tries to get a glimpse of what the future may hold for the Fireling and Kensho. Plot: While I liked last issue's peak into the world of Thraa I feel like Spurrier really got what made the Dark Crystal so special in the first place; the rich characterization. While the last issue focused on aping Henson's opening dialogue Spurrier focused on developing Thurma the Fireling and Kenso the Gelfling. It was a quiet issue that allowed these characters to show us who they were and the beginnings of the relationships is really fun to see. That said, there are some elements that, like the opening of the last issue, feel like thay are focusing too heavily on nostalgia for the film than feeling new and creative. Art: The sisters Matthews continue to impress with the art in this issue. The world of Thraa that they recreate on the pages here is just stunning and I can't wait to see them play more with the world as the story progresses beyond the walls of the Crystal Castle. Grade: 8/10

Quick Reviews:
Super Sons #3: The boys fight android duplicates of their dads. They "rescue" Sara who still has the Amazo virus. Her brother Reggie controls an army of androids which overcome Robin & Superboy.
This was a middle chapter in the arc & was basically an extended fight with androids. A slip in quality IMO. 6/10.
Nightwing #19: An abrupt shift in location shows Shawn & Dick in a desert fighting some bad guys. It turns out they are in Egypt to rescue Damian from Dr Hurt. Dick fights Deathwing again & finds Robin after Hurt has stabbed him with a knife.
This issue was a bit confusing with the abrupt change from France to Egypt. Plus it is unclear what Hurt is doing to Dick & what happened to Deathwing when he lost to Dick (did he go crazy?). Hopefully this will be made clear next issue. 7/10.
Superman #21: Superman, Superboy & Robin go looking for Batman. The weirdness in Hamilton gets weirder. Plus there is definitely something wrong with the Cobb family.
Well the Hamilton & Cobb family mysteries deepen. I really am not sure how this story will end. I'm surprised the Superman title can work well with a touch of "horror". 8/10.
Daredevil #19: More about the Purple Man & how DD's encounter with him restored his secret ID. Matt encounters all his incarnations as Daredevil (yellow suit, armored suit, etc) as Purple Man warps reality to get back at Matt. Eventually Matt knocks out the Purple Man & goes out to save San Francisco from a "chaos wave" Purple Man generated.
Another middle chapter in an arc that feels like nothing really happened except Matt has an argument in his own head with himself as the Purple Man manipulates him. 6/10.
Aquaman #21: Aquaman & Mera discover that the Dead Water lagoon is a portal to another world. Meanwhile back at the Aquamarine base another Dead Water creature is created. In Atlantis a plot develops to depose Arthur as king.
I'm feeling some frustration this week at the fact that many of the titles are in the middle of an arc & feel like they are "treading water" (pun intended). 6/10.

Mark Waid & Pete Woods. With Veronica & Archie not connecting after her return last issue...Mr Lodge plots a way to keep Ronnie & Archie apart. However Jughead finds a way to not only keep Archie & Ronnie together but gets the "spark" between them to reignite. The issue ends with everything set right in Riverdale again except the Blossom twins get a bombshell dropped on them by their dad! We also get a preview of the Big Moose One Shot coming out next week. It looks great! Waid somehow continues to change things up in Riverdale yet maintain the feeling that makes this series uniquely "Archie". Woods is a great addition on art & makes all the characters look classic yet modern. Still loving the New Riverdale titles. Still my favorite titles for over a year now. Feeling a little nervous about the next arc... 9/10.

But they didn't and that's endearing to me not only as a fan of the Dark Crystal, but as a reader in general

It's new from Titan Books. Kim Newman introduced the world in his novel Anno Dracula back in 1992. There have followed two actual novels...a paste-up novel from a number of short stories...a number of other short stories and an new novel coming out later this year. If you're familiar with P.J. Farmer's Wold Newton work this is somewhat similar. Dracula defeated Van Helsing and his group and married Queen Victoria, essentially becoming dictator of the U.K. and bringing literary and cinema vampires out of the wood-work. Super fun books and a very fun comical book so far.

Josie and the Pussycats #6: Another great issue! This series has effortlessly brought in elements from the comics, the cartoon, and modern times into the new Josie comie-- and #6 keeps up the winning streak.I can usually breeze through a comic in less than 5 minutes these days (especially some DC titles), but Josie merits a longer reading and attention to detail and dialogue. Lots of clever quips and gags and you definitely get your $3.99 worth. In this issue, Alexander Cabot accuses Josie of plagiarism ( indicating that his sister Alexandra actually inspired and wrote Josie's songs) and he arrests(!!!!) the gang. They end up in a part of Antartica owned by the Cabot family. Tons of "Frozen" gags ensue--but the gags seem natural and not forced. The entire gang is in this issue--Josie, Valerie, Melody, Alan, Alexandra and Alexander--all that was missing was Sebastian the cat, haha! The story is resolved in this issue as Alexandra explains she is trying to be friends with Josie again and that she appreciates Alexander's efforts. A fun, fast paced, and frantic issue! 10/10
