Written by Matt Kindt. Art by Tomas Giorello. Cover by Kenneth Rocafort. The issue starts with Aric farming on a distant planet - Gorin. He is content with his new life & lover - Schon. His left hand is missing. His body covered with scars. Yet he is pushed into a war he does not want any part of. He is thrown into battle & proves himself to be an unbeatable soldier. This is noticed by the General who forces "Aric of Urth" into a suicide mission. While everyone sleeps Aric calls out to the armor he had hidden on his farm. The issue ends with him bonding with the XO armor again... I had stopped reading the 2012 XO series after a year. I wasn't a fan of the writing style. However the concept behind this re-launch pulled me back in. This was very good as a first issue although only IF you knew some of Aric's history. I really like Kindt's script & Giorello's art was lush & the battle scenes were violent yet drawn well. This was my favorite book of the week.
9/10.

Written by Jason Aaron. Art by Olivier Coipel, Kim Jacinto, Pascal Alixe. Cover by Olivier Coipel. As Odinson places his hand on the Hammer we get a beautiful montage of Thor's life. Odinson pulls back & states even though he "hears" the hammer calling out to him it is not his hammer. He leaves it. He fights the Collector & transports Asgard back to it's original location. It is revealed what was whispered to Odinson. The last page has a shadowed figure pick up the hammer. Beautiful art thru out. I was disappointed Odinson did not pick up the hammer. The letters page reveals that the Mighty Thor title will reveal who has the hammer of the Ultimate Thor. 8/10.

Written by Greg Rucka. Art and Cover by Liam Sharp. Ferdinand, Steve & Etta release Diana from the asylum. She appears to be healed. Rucka starts pulling together all the plot points. Diana confronts Dr Cyber. We get a scene on Paradise Island. And Diana gets shot from behind... Finally Rucka has an issue where he starts to resolve some things. Sharp turns in his usual beautiful art. 7/10.

Barry reveals his ID to Wally II. And that last page... 7/10. Eobard Thawne remembers Thomas Wayne killed him in Flashpoint. He escapes to get back at his son - Bruce.

Written by Gerry Conway. Art by Nathan Stockman. Cover by Ryan Stegman. We get scenes of the Parker family having family fun night. We see Normie Osborn talking to Betty Brant at OsCorp. The Sandman robbing a bank. The Spider Family stopping him. And one of the henchmen escaping & giving Normie a box with a "R" on it. Normie opens it & removes a flash drive. Next: The X-Men. Another really fun issue. This title, the Superman title & the Super Sons title at DC all are fun titles that appeal to a family man like me. 8/10.

Action 976: Superman reborn concludes here in an excellent issue that resolves a mystery, but leaves some unanswered questions. Doug Mahnke provides some beautiful art, depicting a very attractive Superman family and a creepy Mxyzptlk. There is a really nice 2 page spread depicting moments from Superman's life. Without spoiling anything, this issue explains what is going on with the pre 52 and the new 52 Superman. He gets a really nice new costume at the end of the story....however we are lead to believe that something bigger is coming involving a mysterious "He". The consequences of what happens in this issue will affect the other Super titles (according to an illustrated page at the end). For this longtime Superman fan who despised the new 52 version, this issue is a treat. 9/10

Detective Comics #953 reveals the Big Bad Dude who is really behind the latest batch of problems (the mayor has been assassinated, Batman was framed, Joker venom is making everyone more nuts than usual, etc.) threatening Gotham City.
I don't want to spoil it, but it's someone who I feel hasn't been in a good story since the 1980s, even when he's being written by someone who isn't mediocre at best.

Wonder Woman #19: My thoughts....Rucka has done a good job setting up the Rebirth Wonder Woman with an excellent year one origin, a supporting cast, and an interesting story about the mystery of Wonder Woman's past. With this issue, it feels like we are drawing closer to just what is going on (I wonder if there will be similar conclusion as seen in Action Comics this week). I like how he has drawn villains from several eras of Wonder Woman and placed them together (and not just for the sake of having a bunch of villains together). I enjoyed the pages with Dr. Cyber this issue. She is definitely creepy. The art was great as usual. Glad to see Wonder Woman out of the hospital and hopefully getting closer to solving this mystery. 7/10

I read somewhere that my man John Paul Valley became part of Batman's team, is he any good here?

Captain America: Steve Rogers #14If you picked this up looking for a great, good, mediocre, or even slightly below average Captain America story, then you would have been sadly disappointed after reading what Marvel is trying to pass off as a Captain America book. "Trainwreck" or "raging dumpster fire" would be more appropriate descriptors of Nick Spencer's further decimation of the Captain America franchise and his assassination of the character of Steve Rogers. First off, barely half the book actually features the title character, instead wasting a significant number of pages on Madame Hydra (who is revealed as Elsa Sinclair, the woman who recruited Steve's mom and him into Hydra back in the...whatever, it's stupid) trying to assemble a new Hydra High Council. She rounds up HIVE, Viper, Dr. Faustus, Gorgon, Arnim Zola, and Kraken, offering each something that she identifies them as desperately needing. We're also given numerous flashbacks to a meeting from 1944 between Steve and Elsa, where she talks about how she was Madame Hydra even then and how she's a bad woman because she's "danced in the presence of the Elder Gods and seen them smile upon her" and how "Chthon offered to make me his bride...". Sure he did. The pages that actually show Steve Rogers have him doing what he can to thwart Carol Danvers from launching the Planetary Defense Shield, because he wants the Chitauri to be able to attack Earth to restore Hydra to its former glory. It's as dumb as it sounds, further ruined by the fact that when all of the heroes that Carol recruited to test it (Lady Thor, Blue Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and others) fail, Cap calls up his secret weapon in the form of Rick Jones, hacker extraordinaire. Oh, happy day, as my least favorite character is associated with the utter destruction of the legacy of my favorite character. This is a habit buy for me at this point, because I don't enjoy what Nick Spencer is doing at all with this book. Hopefully after the big "Secret Empire" summer event, where Cap is returned to normal, Nick Spencer will get on with his life's work and this ugly period of his history will be relegated to only being spoken of in hushed tones, like when people discuss Cap-Wolf. My Grade: 2/10, because at least the art isn't terrible to look at.

I can't believe I'm not reading either of them anymore. Oh well at least it's only temporary.

I'm in a similar situation with both of the Cap books right now, because if I didn't make fun of them, I would probably be terribly depressed about them.
