Trying a new experiment today. I'd like to know what people think about the new format for advertisements at the bottom of the page, which allows us to mix in some of our own content with paid content.
As always, the goal is to make advertising here as unobtrusive and non-disruptive as possible. It does cost money to run this site, and we have to pay for it somehow. So I want to make sure that the way in which we do advertisements doesn't detract from your experience and (if possible) adds to it.
And, if you're using an adblocker, please do consider deactivating it. I'm paying out of my own pocket to run this site, and these ads help to offset the cost significantly. We're almost at a point where we are making as much as we spend, but we aren't there yet.

Will Viagra ads rise to the top? If they stay at the top of the page for more than 4 hours, call your IT guy... I was a little confused by the ads when I saw them...one was for a thread about DC continuity but had a picture of Micronauts #1 as its visual...wasn't sure how it was selecting threads/images to match up and advertise them.... now the question is will I see ads for CCF threads in other places fueled by google ads.... -M

That puzzled me too. The Micronauts image is the one we use on the facebook page. Maybe it somehow associated the two? At any rate, I think the ads will get better at anticipating relevant threads on the site and appropriate images for them in response to folks clicking thru on them. I suspect it will learn from which ones are getting hits and which ones are not. Regrettably no. We have to pay for that.

Hey shax, I hope you aren't going broke paying for CCF. I'm sure some of the members will be willing to chip in to help you.

As of now, we're losing around $5 a month, which is a major improvement from where we were when we first launched the classiccomics.org domain name. No big deal at all these days. We should be breaking even soon. All I ask from the community is to not block the ads. They're how we fund the site.

When I read @stevo post today, I've decided to disable my Ad Block when I log in this site and I was concerned about the site being too difficult to navigate - so far after logging in - my fears is relieved.
I just wanted to thank Stevo for pointing that out.

shaxperAfter two days of disabling my Ad-Block and my Computer Settings can't not handle it anymore - so I have to enable it back on after two days because I'm having a very difficult time quoting members here and that's alone makes me very frustrated when a certain ads comes up and make it very difficult to quote anyone. So, Shax ... I'm so sorry that I took 2-3 hours today to look into this and can't not make it work. I can disable my Ad-Block when I read stuff offline and that's not a problem and when I'm online and quoting anyone it's a pain in a neck to do any quoting at all.

Frankly, I don't see how advertisements are preventing you from quoting, let alone posting at all. Sounds like something else is wrong with your computer.

Shax, I just can't quote anyone in this site with the advertisements are running full blast. I can post with the ads running - but not quoting. No problems with tagging and anything else. I just spent another hour on my PC today checking settings, programs, and everything that I can think of to make it work. I do read stuff offline and I have no problems reading it with the ads are running and that's not a problem at all. But, when I do quote you just now with the ads are running it's freezes my PC and makes it very difficult for me to type anything to you and anyone else. I just can't find my cursor (it's disappear) and that's a real problem with the ADS are running. Sorry about that.

Ads should not be affecting your computer's performance at all.

Ads should not be affecting your computer's performance at all. I just remember Shax, (I'm hard of hearing / Additional Software) that my Nephew installed a pop-up IM system for the Hearing Impaired that requires me to disable Ads from all Web-Sites when online; offline it's doesn't affect it. My Nephew worked the problem late last night to determine the problem that my pop-up IM system crashes when ads here are running. So, therefore it's a problem in case that they try to get a hold of me in an emergency. I also got other stuff as well because I run two clubs and I have two additional e-mails that I use to communicate with and my tech guy from one club informed me via regular e-mail that you have to disable Ads in order for me to use that e-mail software that's separate from G-Mail. I totally forgot about that one because I don't use it that much. In order to make it worry free for all it's worth - I have to disable Ads for this place altogether. It is very frustrating in the past three days trying to do anything and I just can't quote you with the Ads are running and my cursor disappear on me and freezes my PC when I trying to quote you in the past. I can do a straight up post anywhere on this site but when I do quote it's very frustrating for me to do anything here. It's a nightmare reading and re-reading the manuals that came with it and my Nephew is a very good in Computer Stuff and all that that's why I haven't loaded Windows 10 on my Machine because it's messes up everything. Sorry about the long note here. I just get frustrated with all the software that I have on my PC.

I don't pretend to understand how ads are causing problems, but I'm sorry for your frustration.
