Published: April 28, 2010 Synopsis: "Having returned to the road, a rainstorm sends Usagi in search of shelter. With young Taro's help, he makes a teru teru bozu, a doll that asks the gods for good weather. Little Taro hangs one up on the eaves so that he and his new long-eared friend can play in the morning. This story doesn't punch you in the gut, it viciously stabs you between the third and fourth ribs. The reveal on the last page not only has us assume the worst for Taro and his family, it also means Taro's dream of the night before was prophetic. Usagi died in that dream, so what will that mean for him? I guess among the many possibilities of how Usagi's adventures will end, his death would be among them. It happens quite a bit in heroic literature.
