Did Sakura appear way back in "Gen's Story"? I don't have a copy, so I can't confirm.

Did Sakura appear way back in "Gen's Story"? I don't have a copy, so I can't confirm. I don't believe so. Gen does encounter a trickster husband and wife team in a flashback to his teenage years in that story, killing the husband and leaving the wife, but there's no suggestion that names are exchanged or relationships forged after that fact. Beyond that, the only female Gen encounters in that story is Lady Asano.

After Inazuma's death a couple of issues before, there is now an opening in the Humorless Deadly Female Department, and Sakura has applied. As flippant as that reads, I actually think Sakura has potential. The whip is something different, and the revelation at the end that she's searching for a brother she doesn't have indicates she might be mentally unbalanced, which is intriguing. And then there are the tattoos. This is the third time I've seen a tattooed woman throwing dice in an Usagi story, but I don't recall an explanation for the body art. Quick research online leads me to believe it has something to do with a practice called bakuto, but there's never been an in-story name or explanation given. Or maybe I missed it.

www.japanesesamuraidvd.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/553 I guess that explains where Sakura came from. Really remarkable. Fun movie, too. I watched it on Youtube in Japanese wij Hungarian subtitles. I know neither of those but I followed along well enough.

Nice introduction for Sakura providing just enough enticement to help keep us pndering as we await her return. Good to see another strong honorable female and using her wit as well as a whip. Intriguing that Gen has met and befriended her before and knows her well enough to know she does NOT have the brother she says that she searches for. For certain a story to come later.
