Dejah Thoris #30 and #36 - I only have one more issue and I'll have the whole series! It's so ridiculous, but I love it. Not just the Carlos Rafael art and the semi-Burroughsian adventure, but also the surreal imagery of Dejah Thoris, the princess of Mars, running around in attire made of dental floss, wearing impractical and uncomfortable looking footwear, participating in the government business of the City of Helium and going on archaeological expeditions and whatever. Beyond the cheesecake, it's a wonderful combination of a lot of things I like in crazy comic books. I think I would feel the same way if only I liked the artwork more.

Stopped by Super Fly today and caught up on some stuff I missed while recuperating from surgery, and picked up Dirk Manning's Tales of Mr. Rhee Vol. 1... also grabbed... Mr. Miracle #1 (2nd print) and 2 Bug: The Adventurers of Forager #2-4 Motor Girl by Terry Moore #5-8 and Black Hammer #8-12 There's some stuff that was on my pull I haven't gone back to fill in, but Motor Girl and Black Hammer were ones I definitely wanted to catch up on. I am also caught up on Future Quest. The rest, we'll see. -M

Bought the latest and apparently what will be the last issue of Corben's Shadows on the Grave. Will probably save it to read in October, since I don't have any other horror comics on the go right now that I can think of. I wonder what Corben will do for his next project.

He doesn't do a lot but of course what we get is great.
Wish he'd reprint his earlier work from Fantagor Press.
I think there'd be a market for it.

So, back in the late 90s and early 2000s I did a lot of work promoting the use of comics in the classroom, stumping for the development of curriculum materials that incorporated comics, doing presentations at conferences, etc., etc. One of the things I always suggested as a possibility of doing was a comic based on Marco Polo's travelogues, telling it as a straight adventure story complete with myths and monsters, but including curriculum material (or even links in the text if done digitally or as a CD-ROM the emerging tech of the day before the internet fully took over everything) that linked ott he story to use to teach actual cultural history, economics, art history, etc. etc. Lo and behold today when I walked into my local shop I saw this OGN sitting on the display up front... not quite what I imagined it could be but a very attractive looking GN adaptation of Marco Polo's travelogues done by up and coming Italian cartoonist Marco Tabilio. Best of all, it had an msrp of $11.99 so I picked it up to check it out. I've only flipped through it, but I very much like the design sense of the pages and the limited color palette... It was originally done in 2015, but the English translation just hit this year. I look forward to diving into it. -M

The DC meets Hanna Barbera trade collecting all the one-shots... the latest issue of Terry Moore's Motor Girl (#9), Tom King's Mr. Miracle #3, and the first issue of the sequel I have been waiting for since the first mini wrapped up in 2012/2013...Half PAst Danger 2 #1 by Stephen Mooney The first series was Indiana Jones style pulp adventure with ninjas, dinosaurs and Nazi villians thrown in for good measure, this one picks up after the first one ended... -M

I'll have to look for it.

I'll be backing my first comic via kickstarter on Friday, Dirk Manning's Tales of Mr. Rhee Vol. 4 here's the full cover by Ben Templesmith... I've not jumped on a kickstarter for any comic project before (I've come close but not pulled the trigger), but this one opens Friday and I've highly enjoyedd everything I've read form Dirk, so I will jump on this one. -M

I bought Marvel Legacy last month on the 29th.
Now I'm reading it since I was busy binge reading original uncanny x Men 172 to 179 recently

The artwork on Mr Rhee looks good. Templesmith only did the cover for Vol. 4. Interiors are by other artists, it's good, but it's not Templesmith, so in this case, don't judge the book by the cover. The kickstarter goes live tomorrow (at noon I think) and there is a vido preview of some of the interiors. I'll link it tomorrow when I have the right address and not the one to the private group member preview I have now. -M

Acch, have to re-adjust my expectations now. This is the down-side - and it's always seemed a big one to me - of using specialised cover artists instead of having the same artists to both interior and exterior artwork.

The Mr. Rhee kickstarter has a week left and is approaching $30K in funding, including hitting 11 of 13 stretch goals so far, the latest is a print ofthe Ben Templesmith cover signed by Templesmith. There's also 2 bonus kickstarter exclusive comics coming as part of the stretch goals, a bookplate signed by all 3 creators with a headsketch done by series artist Seth Damoose on each one and other goodies.
If you like good horror comics, give it a look.
