Can you share a little bit about this hardcover ... I'm intrigued by the artwork and it's has that 40's & early 50's theme? I haven't read it yet even though I picked up the issues as they came out. I was planning on reading them a few at a time. Don't really know much about the story either so I can't really help you as of yet. It's by Brubaker and Phillips who I pretty much blindbuy anything they do together. Haven't been disappointed yet. Maybe someone who has read it can answer your question? It's a Hollywood noir murder mystery set during the time of the McCarthy era Hollywood blacklistings. -M

The Fade Out is a solid read. It is not my favorite by the team, but it might be some of Phillips best artwork and the coloring is fantastic.
Only think about Brubaker doing such a piece and one that isn't a genre hybrid is that it can lead to comparisons to other existing works. The Fade Out covers some similar ground as LA Confidential and James Ellroys and others LA Hollywood crime fiction. The Fade Out holds up well.

Yesterday and today I finally got issues 2 and 3 of Inhumans vs X men from Marvel.com's slow and screwed up subscription service.
Dunno why I even bothered with it back in December.
Issue 4 of the series is in comic book shops today.

Bought the first collection of Seven to Eternity, largely because it's a science fiction book and the Jerome Opena artwork looks so good. This'll be my first time reading anything by Rick Remender, so I'm taking a chance.

I have been buying this series as it came out (I am a bit behind, but I really liked issue 1, it had a lot of potential. 2 and 3 were good, but not quite up to the promise of issue 1. I need to catch up n 4 and 5 sitting in to read pile. If you want to try a really good Remender sci-fi book, I recommend Fear Agent. Opena does some of the art on the series. -M

After picking up the last 6 weeks worth of my pull at my lcs, I stopped into Half Price Books for their book lovers eweekend sale (20% off entire purchase with mailing list coupon).
I picked up a few things that are mostly modern (though a few were older than 10 years)
for individual comics I only picked up 2...
Flash Gordon Zeitgest #4 (with gorgeous Alex Ross cover) and Conan #2 from Dark Horse (the Busiek series)-I had given away the first arcs worth of books to a friend when I bought the trade, but decided for Conan I wanted to have the floppies, and this was the last issue I needed for that series)
I also bought some trades...
I replaced my copy of Eisner's Last Days in Vietnam which I had lent out prior to moving away from Ct and never got back
I also picked up...
-Harrow County Vol. 2 (I picked up Vol. 1 w/ X-Mas money but haven't gotten to it yet) -Hellblzer Vol 1 Original Sins (collecting the first 9 issues of the first series (pre-Vertigo, but became the Vertigo series) -Jack Staff: Everything Used to Be Black and White by Paul Grist-this was a series I had a lot of but was in the box that got lost in my move out here over a decade ago and I never got around to getting them again until now)

It was one of the watershed series where I got over some of my prejudices about art styles because he book was just so damn good and it opened my eyes to so many more possibilities in visual style. It appeared on my radar at a time when I was shedding a lot of my old comic habits and exploring other avenues the medium and art form could take. -M

Kamandi Challenge #1. Loved it Moon Knight, two most recent issues--16-17, maybe? Not bad at all, but not worth the high price.

I picked up the first issue of Prowl, the self-publishing debut of local creator Adam Fields... I also picked up the blank variant for Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1 and had Adam do a Doc commission on it... -M

Walt Simonson's Ragnarok title is excellent, done as a follow up on the work he did on Thor. Well worth the time and money spent.
