My favorite part is the fish with the question mark in panel 6.

My favorite part is the fish with the question mark in panel 6. I'm pretty sure Stan extended this into a longer story that he published elsewhere (and which may already be in the Find It Quick Index), but I'll be darned if I can remember. The making of this piece is also covered extensively in one of the Usagi Sketchbooks.

The making of this piece is also covered extensively in one of the Usagi Sketchbooks. Thanks for this! You probably already did this, but I scanned through the index on this site and the one on usagiyojimbo.com and nothing leaped out at me as being related to or derived from this piece. Hopefully someone else knows.

This was a fun little strip, almost like if Stan had done a newspaper Usagi strip.

This was a fun little strip, almost like if Stan had done a newspaper Usagi strip. I'd gladly subscribe to said newspaper I've often wondered what Stan will do with Usagi if/when he ever decides to retire. Maybe a weekly webstrip or quarterly sketchbook containing such a strip would take the place of the current 10x a year publication.

Maybe a weekly webstrip or quarterly sketchbook containing such a strip would take the place of the current 10x a year publication. The correct answer is that when Stan chooses to retire it will only be so that he can upload his mind into a robot which will then continue to write fun stories forever while Stan himself sits back and enjoys his golden years.

I really like that Stan shows Usagi as having a playful sense of humor. Usagi could just as easily struck into the water with his sword killing the ninja. Instead he teaches the ninja a lesson in that he is not as smart as he believes himself to be and never to presume others as being dumb or ignorant.
