God Shax, I've heard things like this from my ex-wife and a few sister-in-laws as well.
Of course it's going to be awkward with her birthday and the current state of your relationship, but try to hang on and walk the higher road, like you do, and let's see what Wednesday brings.
My ex brought up all kinds of things in the past and kept beating me with them. The problem with that is, "What can we do about the past other than make sure it doesn't happen again, and I'm sorry, again. How often do we have to do this ?"
The counselor will definitely be a great step. At least she's willing. My ex was not.

This is why I'm single. I don't have near the patience for that.

There is so much sad in this thread. Damn right. Seems like like almost everybody's having a pretty rough time of it at the moment. Personally, I'm fine and very happy with life, but man...I'm really feeling for those in this thread that aren't.

Man is born into trouble as surely as sparks fly upwards. If you're not in a challenge , you'll get one in time. Not being negative, but in life stuff happens.

I am quite happy about the 6 day train strike Deutsche Bahn is staging this week.
Why, you ask?
Well, I have an hourly train from my town to where I work because it's one of the few lines not operated by DB but a smaller carrier. The other line is the one going from my town to where my newly ex-boyfriend works. There is no train from where he lives to where he works. He usually stayed at my place during train strikes.
Betcha he wishes he'd postponed the breakup by a week now.

To all those in emotional pain in this thread: I'm really sorry for what you are going through. Shax, I do not have words, but I think it's great that you are sharing this with the rest of us. You sound as though you are doing all you can in your situation. I know waiting until Wednesday for counseling seems like waiting an eternity, but I hope that it helps you and your wife. <3

If I had the power to do such things, I would name you a saint. Seriously, the way you seem to be able to just take all this in stride is inspiring. I hope it all pays off you and your family. Well, to be fair, that's the story as told from my perspective, but thank you. I'm not perfect, but I'm trying as hard as I know how. So Shax, the question is... WHY are you trying so hard? Is it for your kid(s)?(I remember you've talked about your daughter...) If you're truly doing all the compromising in the relationship, and it's still not making either of you happy, maybe ending it is the way to go? When you mentioned 'counseling' is that a family thing, or hers, or yours? They do have good family counselors, though I suspect if what you posted is true that wouldn't help that much.

He'll know if/when he is.

Ugh, so sorry, Shax. When you said depression it all made sense. As I was reading, I thought the things she said were irrational and unfair, and depression explains it. It can throw anyone off. I hope for your sake and everyone else's she is willing to accept and examine the problems and work on herself. While this is obviously from your perspective, it sounds as if you are doing all of the right things and making all of the compromises here. Hang in there, and I hope it goes well for you.

Man is born into trouble as surely as sparks fly upwards. If you're not in a challenge , you'll get one in time. Not being negative, but in life stuff happens. ...which made me think of this ... Dinosauria, we Charles Bukowski born like this into this as the chalk faces smile as Mrs. Death laughs as the elevators break as political landscapes dissolve as the supermarket bag boy holds a college degree as the oily fish spit out their oily prey as the sun is masked
we are born like this into this into these carefully mad wars into the sight of broken factory windows of emptiness into bars where people no longer speak to each other into fist fights that end as shootings and knifings
born into this into hospitals which are so expensive that it’s cheaper to die into lawyers who charge so much it’s cheaper to plead guilty into a country where the jails are full and the madhouses closed into a place where the masses elevate fools into rich heroes
born into this walking and living through this dying because of this muted because of this castrated debauched disinherited because of this fooled by this used by this pissed on by this made crazy and sick by this made violent made inhuman by this
the heart is blackened the fingers reach for the throat the gun the knife the bomb the fingers reach toward an unresponsive god
the fingers reach for the bottle the pill the powder
we are born into this sorrowful deadliness we are born into a government 60 years in debt that soon will be unable to even pay the interest on that debt and the banks will burn money will be useless there will be open and unpunished murder in the streets it will be guns and roving mobs land will be useless food will become a diminishing return nuclear power will be taken over by the many explosions will continually shake the earth radiated robot men will stalk each other the rich and the chosen will watch from space platforms
Dante’s Inferno will be made to look like a children’s playground the sun will not be seen and it will always be night trees will die all vegetation will die radiated men will eat the flesh of radiated men the sea will be poisoned the lakes and rivers will vanish rain will be the new gold
the rotting bodies of men will stink in the dark wind
the last few survivors will be overtaken by new and hideous diseases and the space platforms will be destroyed by attrition the petering out of supplies the natural effect of general decay
and there will be the most beautiful silence never heard
born out of that.
The sun still hidden there awaiting the next chapter.

I was gonna go with "leave chocolate smudges all over his Silver Age X-Men books" but yours works, too.

Damn spider in my water cup! That shows he's an evil purportrator. He got all the way from the outside, into the warehouse, then into the office, and then onto my desk, and then had to crawl into my water cup! Evil creatures! He's probably out there right now in the warehouse laughing at me from where I threw the cup.
