It's not a spin-off, it was a substitute made when ingredients for mayonnaise were scarce and expensive due to war shortages. It may have the texture of mayo, but no where near the taste and it should in no ways be considered mayo. It is a dressing substitute that should have been retired once the shortages were alleviated. People used it only because they couldn't get real mayo, and once real mayo was available, there's no reason to use it ever again. I mean if you choose to use it, good on you, but don't ever try to serve it to me and tell me its mayo, or say you are putting mayo on something and then use Miracle Whip. -M That's interesting. I didn't know the history behind it. Thanks for sharing that. My comment was more in terms of it's current usage where regular mayo is plentiful. Miracle Whip has a distinct flavor profile and a tanginess unlike a more neutral mayo. In essence, we agree that one should not try to pass one off as the other because they are absolutely not the same.

Something that's weird to me is the amount of people who find Mayo on a hamburger revolting. Personally I enjoy it on a Whopper when I have one on the rare occasion but I see a lot of people treat it like a crime against humanity Also, found out about this earlier. MeTV (the people who air Svengoolie) is creating a sister channel called "MeTV Toons", a 24 hour cartoon channel that's on good old rabbit ears. Couldn't be more excited variety.com/2024/tv/news/metv-toons-network-launch-weigel-broadcasting-warner-bros-discovery-1235988916/

As far as mayo on a burger, I can take it or leave it. I'll eat it either way with no problem.
Mayo on french fries (or pommes frites), however, I'll leave that to the Belgians, the French, and the Dutch. I just can't do it.
I also saw the news about MeTV Toons, which is a cool idea. I record their daily Toon in with ME show every weekday, and usually have it on during my first hour or so of work as background noise.

Totally agree. Some things are irreplaceable, and you just can't beat the real thing. I feel like the more general the product, the likelier it is to be on par with the brand. Super specialized things like colas with their unique recipes are harder to replicate. There is only one Coke. Indeed. I mentioned Hovis bread and Diet Coke. I suppose I’d add Heinz Baked Beans to my list. I’ve tried non-branded beans and they aren’t for me. Also, sometimes there are no alternatives. Walkers do roast chicken crisps, and they are nice, but I have not been able to find non-branded roast chicken crisps. It seems, possibly with some exceptions, that the supermarkets’ own crisps are usually ready salted.

Not a big mayo fan in general, except to help hold together tuna salad, but I especially don't get mayo on burgers or any hot sandwich. To me, the taste and texture of hot mayo is quease-inducing.

For me, if you notice the mayo, it's too much. It should be just enough so your sandwich isn't dry, etc.

I heard an interesting question today- if you entered a room that had everyone you ever met, who would you go to first?

The organiser, and ask if this is an episode of 'this is your life'
And my ex will get another black eye if he says hello.

Probably my grandma so she can meet my kids and my dogs. She'd have really enjoyed them.
