I’m afraid I only trust the Daily Planet.

Made poutine for dinner. Put way too much gravy and cheese curds on those fries.

I don't trust any news agency for anything more than the bare bones of what's going on, like "there was a bombing in Latveria". Even when just reporting facts objectively, it is so easy to distort what's actually going on. "Young man who turns his back on his family starts cult; gets in trouble with the law after accusations of planning an insurrection". For the past 25 years, I've subscribed to Foreign Affairs; it doesn't report news, but presents essays by scholars and/or diplomats (including several foreign ministers). The writers don't pretend to be neutral, but they can explain how they actually view things; that gives us viewers a more nuanced idea of why people are doing what they are. (I disagreed completely with Condoleezza Rice, for example, on the war in Iraq... but after reading her piece, I could at least understand where she came from). The CBC, meanwhile, is dead to me.
I read an issue of Foreign Affairs last year that I bought to read on the plane when I flew back home to Nfld. I ended up reading I think pretty much the whole issue and you're right, the articles were uniformly thought-provoking and well-written. I especially remember the one on the then upcoming Chinese Communist Party's National Congress and Xi Jinping's probable re-instatement as leader, written by a former CCP insider now living in the US.
However, I think there's a great risk in being too much exposed to something that takes so completely the American view of geopolitics - which FA does, even when critical of some particular aspect of American policy. This is one area where I think balance is vital, because we in the west are already so immersed in that worldview. The fact that diplomats and foreign ministers are among the authors only confirms this danger.

I honestly wish there were stricter rules on what is allowed to be called news versus editorial/opinion, etc. I think "news" should be relaying facts that happened, period. The commentators and celebrities with their own shows should be something else.
I also think the 24 hour news cycle is a scourge and innately leads to all the fear-mongering and clickbaiting.

Just as we got the damage to the siding on the back of the house from the last wind storm repaired, a limb fell off the neighbor's tree in their back yard and took out part of our fence back there. No one hurt, and they are handling the repairs to it, but it's been that kind of winter so far.

I cut down all ,of my tall tress over the last few years in order to avoid any damage from storms. But certainly we don’t get the type of weather you get where you are.

I cut down all ,of my tall tress over the last few years in order to avoid any damage from storms. But certainly we don’t get the type of weather you get where you are. We have one in our front yard we're worried about but we've been ghosted by 4 different tree services after they gave us quotes and we scheduled them to come take it down now, so it is a concern, but the tree that fell was on the neighbor's property, not ours. It's the second time that tree has lost a limb and taken out part of our fence. They trimmed it back after last time, but it happened again. C'est la vie. No one was hurt, and the fence can be repaired and it won't come out of our pocket, it's just been a lot of little things all at once this winter that highlight the downside of home ownership (though the goods far outweigh the bad, especially from the POV of someone who grew up mostly being in a family that rented for most of my childhood). It's an annoyance, not a tragedy. -M

I watched the 1st season of Reacher with my wife and enjoyed it. However, I chose not to watch season 2 when she watched it. She enjoyed the 2nd season, but not as much as the 1st, and nothing in the the bits I did catch while she was watching it made me second guess my decision not to watch it.

I seriously need to binge on Reacher....loving the clips on youtube.... I watched both seasons. Highly recommended . And I never watch streaming series much. You had to drag me kicking and screaming to watch the MCU stuff.

I’m curious how many might consider remarriage if death separated your marriage. Or would you rather stay alone? I personally would rather have a shorter life if it meant me dying first.
