Had to go play S.O.S.
For those who don't know, ABBA is an acronym of the first letter of the first name of each member...
Though Anni-Frid Lyngstad is generally known as Frida, her nickname, and the name she used on her hit solo album, in 1982, Something's Going On (with the title song, produced by Phil Collins)

ps The image of Frida, watching from the shadows, wearing the trench coat, always reminds me of an image in Paul Gulacy's Black Widow portfolio..... I guess Tick and Adam will be very happy.... and Muriel.... I wonder if Max Rockatansky had ABBA tapes in his V-8 Interceptor?

pps You can say what you want about the lightness of their music, quality or whatever else; but, the songs were great for capturing moods and the really upbeat ones are wondrously joyful. Neil Tennant, of the Pet Shop Boys, on the South Bank Show, kind of summed up the power of pop music, when he said it reminds you of a particular time and a particular place. ABBA is the perfect example of that. For me, it takes me back to my pre-teen and early teen years, in the 70s, hearing them on the radio. I have all kinds of music, from Rockabilly to Heavy Metal, Disco to Grunge, Classical and New Wave (well, more New Wave, than any other); but, Abba gets a lot of play, in my collection; almost as much as Blondie or Concrete Blonde.

I have realized I am living in a Pink Panther film. The new kitten, Aja is Cato, attacking everyone, without warning, whenever; the older cat, Derek, is Inspector Clouseau, the victim of most of the attacks, and I am Chief Inspector Dreyfus, slowly being driven mad by them! This morning, Derek climbed on top of my chest to lounge, as he often does (he will usually spend part of the night sleeping on my hip or crotch, depending on how I am laying in bed), and Aja climbed up and laid down behind him, while she proceeded to attack his tail. I've had to ban her from the computer room, while I am typing a review, because she attacks the cabling of my computer. She's followed me into the bathroom on multiple occasions and nearly gotten herself soaked, and I don't mean by water! Return of the Pink Panther was one of my father's favorite movies growing up and became one of mine. I watched it so many times with him. The whole bit with the blind beggar to Clouseau in the Inspector's office could be one of the funniest things on film. And speaking myself, now that you mention it, the kittens we got are all Clouseaus driving this Inspector crazy too. I've forgotten how obnoxious kittens can be. Can't wait (and hope) they grow out of it eventually.

Agnetha looks like she's aged more (understandable if you know the history and what she's been thru since the band broke up - in terms of stalkers and shysters taking advantage of her. . there's an EXCELLENT documentary that came out a few years ago on the band detailing what they all did after the break up, that's well worth seeking out if you're a fan). and note: not judging her based on her appearance, but just noting i find it interesting that Agnetha was always the "sex pot" of the band (while Frida was her "best friend"). . and in current pics, Frida is looking stunning for her age.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but I really, really dislike ABBA. I mean, I can definitely appreciate that their songs are extremely well written pop, but they don't move me at all and I would never listen to them by choice. ABBA are a bit of a joke band to me.
That said, I do quite like "The Day Before You Came", but that's a really atypical ABBA song and I think Blancmange's cover of it is much, much better than ABBA's version...

and this one was a pretty big club hit too:

Yeah, they're an underrated synth pop band, for sure. They were quite big here in the UK for a couple of years around '82 to '84. I bought both Living On The Ceiling and Don't Tell Me on 7" as a kid by saving up my pocket money. I taped their cover of "The Day Before You Came" off of the radio (must've been short of pocket money funds that week ).

I'd be down for a classics version too well, I tried.
I made a thread, I posted a pic.. I typed it up. . . and it's gone.
I don't know if a Mod moved it? deleted it? whatever. I tried. . . . lesson learned. . don't bother.
