In my listing: Tomb of Dracula. Perhaps one of if not the greatest horror comics of all. Superbly written and drawn the series speaks for itself and is always in the forefront of horror so i chose to look at lesser known horror this year.
Swamp Thing and Man Thing both could have and should have probably been on the list as well since both continue to this day in being able to sell comics but again both muck monsters are highly visible and always noted.

Not a lot of characters I thought of beyond my choices. Swamp Thing, Dracula (ToD), Lucifer, The Corinthian and Merv Pumpkinhead.

I considered Marvel's Scarecrow (Scott Edelman's weird cult-battling creature who emerged from a painting in Dead of Night, but with only two solo appearances and a guest shot in MTIO, I didn't think he quite qualified. Still, it was a cool concept, and I wish I could have seen how Edelman would have developed this into an ongoing feature. I got a huge kick out of comics with leads that weren't the kinds of human characters we typically relate to. Speaking of which... Man-Thing was another consideration, but the things I love about this character were better captured in my choices of Swamp Thing and the Zombie. I also considered The Heap, both the Hillman original and Skywald's version. The original, once again, was one of those inhuman creatures resistant to the typical kinds of lead roles we expect from ongoings, like the Zombie, Man-Thing, and Briefer's Frankenstein. Skywald's Heap was more extreme and violently monstrous, but my appreciation for that series came way after publication, so I don't have the kind of genuine love that merits putting it on my list. Same for Skywald's Frankenstein sequel, as produced by Tom Sutton. Morlock 2001 was also on my list, just passing the rule regarding number of appearances. Definitely my favorite (70's) Atlas monster. None of the others--Bog Beast, Son of Dracula, Tarantula, Man-Monster, Demon-Hunter, Grim Ghost--would have been under consideration, although I read them all and would have followed them longer if they had continued.

The Phantom Stranger (and I'm still not sure I did the right thing in leaving him off the list) Wynonna Earp Marvel's Frankenstein Monster Elsa Bloodstone The Nocturnals Dr Terrance Thirteen (ultimately I decided he was more of a detective character than a horror character)

I forget sometimes what a great Storm Byrne used to draw. Here's some of my Morrison's Frankenstein Monster (the language alone makes him one of the best ever) Blade (Wolfman/Colan, not the movie version) Hannibal King (a trenchcoat-wearing, hardboiled detective who's a vampire, what a great idea! one of the many current writers who are into crime fiction should take a shot at a King series) Ulluxy'l (Lovecraftian Bloodstone villain killed off way too soon, IMO): The Phantom Stranger (love the concept and the design, but haven't read enough to know the character well) Thog (Devil-like demon from Man-Thing; already had Dormammu in my list and didn't want to choose another Satanic character) The Demon (decided it was more the Kirby series as a whole that I liked rather than the character on his own) Doctor Glitternight (weird, creepy Werewolf by Night villain; not sure anyone other than Moench in WbN has ever made use of him):
