So, my wife was bored and channel surfing the other night, and found a documentary on making Sake. After about 10 minutes (it was pretty boring.. no narration or host, just footage of people making sake), I said to her 'You'd be alot more interested and learn more if you just read the Usagi comic about this'. She kinda scoffed at me, until I started telling her about stuff before they mentioned it on the show (like how the mold is unique to each family and such). Of course, she fell asleep shortly after. My 16 year old daughter came in to say good night a bit later, saw what was on, and said 'This looks boring, why didn't you just tell mom to read Usagi'. It was pretty awesome (Mod Note: feel free to put this under the thread for that issue, I just don't know which it is off hand).

That's awesome! It would be great to one day see each of those historical-basis stories anthologized: "Usagi Teaches Japanese Culture". It would be a lot more helpful for general audiences than an Idiot's Guide

Sounds like a reference to the issue about soy sauce making (Shoyu, UY #143-144), that is the story where the different molds unique to each family's recipes is mentioned. I do not believe sake brewing has been covered in Usagi yet.

In "Shoyu," a comparison was made between soy sauce making and sake making. I'd imagine that's what wildfire was thinking of.

Hm, saké in itself could be an interesting angle for Usagi. Some samurai had drinking problems. Or Stan could tell about the fabrication.
All I know is, Usagi tends to drinks less and less the older he gets.
