Published: September 1992 Synopsis: Usagi and Tomoe encounter trickster foxes who attempt to impersonate them. Notes: Though written relatively early on, Stan always intended for this story to take place at a much later point in Usagi continuity, when Usagi would return to the Geishu Province for a time. Another quiet and gorgeous splash page with Usagi and Tomoe together of which I can stare at endlessly over the subtle details. you can feel the breeze and sense Tomoe's soft liking of appreciating this moment shared between them and the gentle happiness Usagi exudes. The fox hiding from the hounds in Usagi's clothing is humorously splendid and it seems almost as though the fox innately knows there is safety to be found with this warrior. Later in the story when Tomoe confronts Usagi about Kuzunoha you can feel and see the anger coming from Usagi at her and thet shot of Kuzu looking over Usagi's shoulder is really potent and evil looking. In the end that sly old evil trickster gets her own just rewards being slain by the hunters of the fox Usagi earlier saved and the enchantment is broken. This is strong writing and art combining with a wonderful story. Again, Thank you Stan for all your efforts in telling not just stories of Usagi the Ronin, but tales of wonder and magic and meaning of Usagi the person. This is why the series has such longevity and worth for all of us readers.
