After the reboot I got several warnings for...you'd have to ask the mods, then posted complaining about the current draconian atmosphere, which of course got me banned. They don't care for criticism. I realize the actions that caused the reboot were deplorable and the people in charge were understandably panicked, but how about going after the posters who were sending the threatening messages (with well-deserved legal action) rather than clamping down on people just there to talk Doctor Who and Walking Dead and who wins in a fight between Superman and Thor...? Absolutely preposterous! Everyone knows Thor would win!

Is it true that Jonah is going to use the money to found a new company in association with a Mr. Yutani?

If one of the most laid back guys in here even got banned over there ..... glad I never rejoined. I would go there and read threads and stuff, you know cause I may not like to involve myself in drama, but it's entertaining to read. And I had caught several posters getting posts edited when bringing up the old site in contrast. It's just as bad as people that pretend something didn't happen in history. You can't ignore it. Couple that with the previous vocal minority becoming the vocal majority (or at least highest post count/participate more) having the backing of most of the moderators made the Community and TV/Movies sections almost unbearable. When the actual moderation staff is intentionally posting articles (TV/Movies) with controversial subjects in a click bait fashion and then editing people's posts and banning people. It's like wtf?

The weird thing to me is before the big crackdown the community generally didn't tolerate sexism, racism, or other forms of bigotry in the forums. No clue about comments in articles, I typically didn't read them. But immediately after the crackdown it seemed people were toeing the line with their prejudice and people were being banned for criticizing it. It was almost as if the new strategy was protecting the people who caused the whole mess in the first place from receiving any backlash for their comments. That's pretty much why I left. That and them screwing with the indy and classic comics forums. Nine Batman forums, one forum for everything else on the planet.

I'm too much of a casual poster to comment on the general vibe of CBR, but I am saddened by the decline in traffic the boards seem to have had since the reboot.
Then again, part of that could be blamed on a decline of message boards to begin with. A new generation is now growing up that's used to having social media at their disposal. Only those who look for more in-depth discussion will sign up for a forum nowadays, those who seek a more casual approach to their interests will settle for a Facebook or Tumblr page to follow. So while the influx of fresh blood is not going to dry up, it will be more of a trickle than a flow.
But yes, I also still think it was poor judgment to shut down some sub-forums like Classics, Music, or Anime/Manga, as well as the strict implementation of the rules (and unwarranted bans, as some of you have been subjected to). It did end up scaring a lot of veteran members away.

I see that as a positive, personally. I like the idea that people who come here do so because they really want to get involved in discussion. Meanwhile, social media isn't strictly a competitor. It's also allowed us to reach thousands of people who wouldn't have ever found the CCF otherwise

Yeah I have no use for social media much. My FB account is literally used once a year on the day my mother in law died to post something in her memory. I have no accounts on any other.

I have five friends on Facebook, four of which are ex-members of a Dutch comic book forum that was closed down, and whom I have met in person for a special get-together (something we're going to repeat this very month). The fifth is an ex-co-worker.
Not big on social media myself.
Nevertheless, shax, I see the positive sides you describe above; hadn't looked at it that way before.

I vastly prefer forums to other social media. I don't have a social media account anywhere except for a bunch of forums. I might get an instagram account at some point, though, so I have a place to post my action figure photography.

I use both social media and forums, but I tend to find following interests on social media to be...limiting. I mostly use facebook to chronicle my daughters growing up and to keep in touch with old friends and distant family. I also follow some facebook groups devoted to my lesser interests that I seldom want to discuss in depth -- silent films, Universal Horror, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, etc.
But I spend far more time here than I do on facebook, and that would still be true if I weren't Site Custodian.
