Mickey Mouse #14 (coming in November) will contain the next Casty adventure, a direct sequel to "Day of the Colossus": "Fantametal Phantoms" " Mickey's classic title is back from hiatus-with fan favorite Andrea "Casty" Castellan and Mickey's rowdy explorer pal Eurasia Toft on board! Mickey's out to find Atlantis or die trying... and yaarrr! There be pirates, pitfalls, creepy Count Zoox, and the hideous Horde of the Violet Hare!"

Well, shaxper, it appears we meet again! Ha, I just finished the 'Big Fat Flat Phantom Blot Plot' (IDW) last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Apparently a popular fellow named "Casty" wrote it, and I've been told I should track down more! I see your recommendations here, and thank you again for the emaciation of my wallet! ; )

Very much in tradition of great Floyd Gottfredson. If he was alive I think these would put a smile on his face.
Out of curiosity I bought more recent issue 21 - Clones of Channel 3000. It certainly put a smile on my face - Good ol Minnie is back (and the rest of the crew), their characters are back that is, and there is that same type of exuberance when there is some big event on the horizon.
In this case - Mickey is about to receive some huge flat screen and 2999 channels (+ 1), as a gift from his alien friend. They are all talking at the same time, and not listening to each other. Of course, as soon as it's delivered they turn it on and immediately switch to channel 3000.
It's a magical channel and they are transfered into that World, where apparently all people look and behave exactly the same.
It's a lovely combination of children and adult fiction where both can find something for themselves, while at the same time neither are bored by the other part. For kids there is that sensation of getting into the fictional/virtual universe of a movie or a tv show, and in case you are wondering what's in for adults in this issue - It's a satire of (daytime) television and all the BS it broadcasts 24/7. You know all those shows about lawyers/doctors/politicians where everyone is the same and ever so representable and with character depth that matches the thickness of a cardboard. In a word - they are just like clones, clones from channel 3000.

I really should pick some of thses up at some point... I do love me some Duck books, but for some reason Mickey just doesn't inspire me.

I was just thinking about this thread last night and wondering if I'd be able to find it again. So glad you dredged it up, texcap! On the one hand, I'm thrilled Casty is getting prominent attention in the IDW books as of late. On the other, a lot of the more recent translations are of earlier works that really aren't his usual quality. The Double Joke storyline and the one in Donald and Mickey #1 were huge disappointments. I actually wrote to IDW just last night about that. Casty's best stories pair imaginative and well thought-out big sci-fi concepts with the adorable "Omigosh!" simplicity of Mickey and his friends. The more recent pieces selected...not so much. I'm so glad others are enjoying Casty. Now I just want you folks to be able to read the good stuff!

So apparently I missed the newest Casty translation this past Wednesday. I'll have to hunt it down.

Well it took four years, but there is finally some more Casty in print in the English language! Fantagraph has just released a Disney Masters volume for Casty entitled "Trapped in the Shadow Dimension". I am thirty pages in and forcing myself to pause because I don't want to finish it too quickly. Fantagraph has teased that there may be more Casty volumes to follow!

I think they come up with a 'Disney Masters' Volume every month? I got the last one that was Uncle Scrooge based. I think they've finished the Carl Banks and Don Rosa stuff.
