This was a new one for me, until I bought the third Saga Volume I never even knew this little one page story existed. It was short but fun concerning a battle with a quick footed ninja who dies after leaping off a wall in an escape plan that he thought would lead him to the moat...only to find out too late that the mote had been drained. Nothing super exciting but the ending was fun.

I like how the entire story is delivered in one page, but there's still a surprise ending. It almost reads like a Sunday newspaper comic strip.

You can see the development of this piece in one of the early sketchbooks, but I can't recall which one. Very interesting to see how much work and thought goes into a simple one page piece.

This one gives new deadly meaning to the old parable of look before you leap. It truly becomes one to be aware of their surroundings, especially when attempting a fanciful escape. Especially love Usagi's simple remark as he walks away that at least he knows the moat is empty.
This one pager shows that Stan has created something special in Usagi which transcends just the comic book world. Stan through Usagi could create wonderful stuff in nearly any format he wishes. That is story and character diversity and true greatness!
