Justice League of America Chapter 16

Superman struggled as Ultra Humanite's hands tightened around his throat.




"No!!! Noo!!!!" Lana screamed as she saw her son struggle.




"I have to admit, this worked out better than I ever expected." Gorilla God laughed.

The other members of the Society smiled in agreement. Karl Kyle had slinked into the shadows, disgusted by the scene.




Just then Brainiac's ship shook and tilted. Ultra Humanite lost his grip on Superman and dropped him to the floor.




For a moment all was silent. Suddenly, one of the ship's walls was split open. Peering through the damaged wall was Hawkman, his mace swinging.




"The Justice League...how did you--?" Ultra Humanite said angrily.




"That doesn't matter, greenie! We found you and this stops. NOW" The Flash said, streaking to Gorilla God and freeing Lois.




"No matter. You can all die together!" Ultra Humanite said as he motioned to the Society.




Flash sped down a corridor with Lois.




"Flash, you've got to save them. He's going to kill them all!" Lois said, panicked.




"Don't worry Miss Lane. Here, this looks place looks safe. Stay here and out of sight until this over." Flash said, speeding away.




Lois stood shaking, unsure of what had just happened.




"Miss Lane, up here." came a male voice.




"Karl?"




"Yes, I was trying to find a way off this ship or least a place to hide." came the voice of Selina Kyle's nephew. He had hidden in the ship's ventilation system. He removed the vent and dropped to the ground.




"You think they'll stop Ultra Humanite? I'm always up for some mischief but murder, well, that's a no-go for me."




"All we can do is hope." Lois said.




Back in the holding area, the Justice League and the Society fought.




Blackfire blasted away at Wonder Man. He deflected her blasts with his bracelets. Jem made her way to Superboy.




"What did they do to you?" the pretty former pop star asked her adopted son.




"Kryptonite...." he said weakly.




Jem noticed the entire Superman family had been injured.




"Foolish woman!" Gorilla God growled running towards her.




"Stuff it!" Jem said, unleashing a bright, colorful blast at the rampaging gorilla, sending his crashing into the Ultra Humanite.




Raven stared down White Canary.




"You have returned. I shall help myself to seconds, like a buffet." Raven smiled.




"Not again." White Canary smiled."This time, I'm prepared for you!"




Black Canary dropped from the ceiling and landed on Raven, knocking her down.




"You'll never hurt my sister again or anyone else!" Black Canary cried. She unleashed her sonic scream as Raven covered her ears.




BOOM! Cyborg sent a conscussive blast at Black Canary, sending her toppling into her sister.




"No one messes with my friends." Cyborg said coldly.



Silver Swan watched silently as the battle raged.




"Katie, Katie, can you hear me?" Wonder Man asked as he captured Blackfire with his lasso.




Silver Swan stared blankly at him. Blackfire looked at her silently mouthed something. Silver Swan's entire demeanor changed as she attacked Wonder Man, her razor sharp nails slashing away.




Wonder Man was quick to deflect her attack with his bracelets, breaking her nails.




Fate rushed over to the fallen Raven. She looked up at him, her second set of eyes emerging.




Under his helmet, Fate's eyes widened and sweat poured from his forehead. He quickly shouted an incantation and Raven became still and silent.




"Fate! You need any help?" Batwoman asked as she fought against Gorilla God.




"No...no..I'm ok. The incantation worked, thanks to Madame Xanadu. Raven is out. Fate said, satisfied.




"One down, too many to go!" Green Lantern said as she used her ring to manifest a giant banana peel. As Gorilla God charged Batwoman, he slipped on the peel and crashed into a wall of circuitry. Everyone noticed the ship begin to shake.




"You fool! You've damaged the ships controls!" Ultra Humanite screamed.




'He's right! We're crashing!" Aquaman said, tossing his trident at Ultra Humanite. The mad man used his mental powers, sending it hurling back at Aquaman. He quickly leapt out of the way, narrowly missing being impaled.




Flash ran by Silver Swan, wrapping her head to toe in wires. He gently thumped her forehead, knocking her out. Cyborg raised his arm, sending tendrils of circuits towards the Flash. Flash ran, but the tendrils wrapped around his feet, tripping him. He landed next to Superman.




"Don't worry big guy, we'll get you and your family to safety."




"Th...thanks....Flash." Superman said weakly.




Cyborg fired wildly as Jem, Wonder Man, and White Canary scattered.




He turned his back to Aquaman. Aquaman picked up his trident and hurled it into Cyborg's back, causing electrical sparks and smoke.




"You've damaged my internal system!" Cyborg said, his robotic eye glowing red.




Jem raised her hands and manipulated the sound waves in the area. She concentrated and sent them crashing into Cyborg's body. Seconds later, his robotic parts shattered and the framework holding him together was all that was left.




"Good Lord....what did they do to that man..." Green Lantern gasped at the sight.




Batwoman looked around. Raven was down, Blackfire captured, Silver Swan was out cold, and Cyborg had been neutralized. She saw Gorilla God standing next to Ultra Humanite.




"I underestimated your friends." Ultra Humanite said, crossing his arms. "Gorilla, I have no need of you."




"What--?" Before Gorilla God could say another word, the Ultra Humanite sent a mental blast, sending him out of the ship and crashing through the sky.




Hawkman said, "I'll get him!" as he soared away after Gorilla God.




"The rest of you will die with the Superman family." Ultra Humanite smiled, sending mental energy at the Justice League and Superman's family.




Everyone struggled as the energy lifted them into the air.




Clark reached out for Lana's hand.




Kara looked at Jon and Conner.




Fate struggled, he couldn't concentrate on an incantation or motion his hands.




"Won't...let...it..end this way..." he thought.




"Fool. My mental powers are greater than all of you!" I hate to end this all at once, but I must before this ship crashes." Ultra Humanite said, gesturing with his hands.




Aquaman could feel his skull being crushed. He gasped.




Out of the corner of her eye, Green Lantern saw Lois come running in. She was carrying something.




"What are you--?" Ultra Humanite said.




Lois aimed some type of device at the madman and fired.




Seconds later, Ultra Humanite's head was blown off his body and the Justice League dropped to the floor.




"Green Lantern! Stop this thing!" Aquaman said.



Green Lantern exited and used her ring to create a harness around the ship. She gently landed the damaged ship to the ground. Flash ran out.




"You ok?"




"I am. That took a lot out of me. What just happened in there?"




"I'm not sure...it all happened so fast."



Green Lantern smiled and hugged her friend.




Minutes later IADC emergency personnel scoured the scene. Superman and his family were lifted into emergency vehicles and sped away to the IADC hospital.




"You guys ok?" Wonder Man asked his former teammates. "Jem and I have to go be sure Conner's going to be ok."




"We're good, go." Batwoman said.




"Miss Lane, are you ok?" Fate asked the stunned woman. "You saved us."




"I....I....." she broke down and sobbed. Fate comforted her. Karl Kyle scurried away towards the trees.




"Aunt Selina was right. Getting mixed up in that scene is not good. But, I'll keep an eye on Lois. She interests me." he smiled, back flipping away and disappearing.




Black Canary saw Hawkman in the sky. "Where's Gorilla God?"




"I couldn't find him. Either he landed and made a splat before I could get to him or he escaped." Hawkman sighed.




"Knowing him, he escaped." Flash replied.




"Come on. IADC can handle this mess. Let's go check on our friends." Batwoman directed her teammates.
