MTIO 29 and MTU 82-85 You can add GS Spider Man 2 to the list of skips. Not part of Doug's story. Not referenced in any context of MoKF. Just a wee bit of marketing a character by Marvel. These are all fun issues mind you... Thanks!

Mmmmh... Marvel is putting out a new Shanf-Chi title, "Deadly hands of kung-fu", and as an established curmudgeon I already give its preview very bad marks.
Shang-Chi soliloquizes and says "I am Shang-Chi, the master of Kung fu". Well, first, there is no such thing as "THE" master of kung fu. And second, Shang would never refer to himself as such.
Second, the first issue deals with Shang-Chi having to deal with the murder of an old lover. Oh great! Not only do we establish the "seriousness" of this new book by killing old characters (as I assume the old lover can be none other than Leiko or Pavane, seeing Shang's had no time for anyone else), but we also begin with a Woman In The Refrigerator! %$#@#!!!!!
To me, Shang Chi's story ended with MoKF 125. All these other guys since are impostors, clones bred by Fu Manchu, or Doombots. Grumblegripegrumblegripegrumblegripe.

My feelings about Marvel's reboot would probably get me banned if I posted them here. Let's leave it at - 100% agree.
I'll chastise you a little though Sir... 125, while acceptable, was not quite perfect. I'm referring to how the supporting cast was handled.
Anyhoo... If Brubaker writes it it might be alright.

So for the first time in my life: No current Marvel. No current DC.
The clerks at my LCS looked at me like I had kicked a cute little dog.
I don't see myself as a Grumplegripegrumblegripegrumblegriper.

I'm not sure how accurate it was, but the Shang Chi appearance in Secret Avengers were decent.

Shang Chi's was one of them. Jim Corrigan's story ended in Spectre #62. The story is done. Move on and write about something else.

Oh, I would even accept that the entire post-Moench run of the original run wasn't very good. Shang Chi leaving his friends (and especially Leiko) because he had trouble atoning for (SPOILER REMOVED) seemed a bit extreme. Still, unsatisfactory as it was, it was still an acceptable send-off: nobody was killed to make the final issue more "collectable", nobody was maimed to give the issue more "emotional impact", and nobody was turned into a cyborg. There was even the possibility that Shang would come out of retirement one day. (Which he did, but that was definitely a bad idea).

Ed Brubaker could probably do Shang-Chi some justice. His Captain America run was essentially just an homage to MoKF.

I think you can make it so you can like posts, if Shax was so inclined to make it so. There's also a 'karma' system which you can give people + or - points as you like their stuff. I personally don't particularly like either, but if others do, the option is there.

Has anyone read Moench & Gulacy's return to the character in the 6 issue Marvel Max mini? If so, reactions? Still an impostor? GCD page
I remember reading it when it came out and liking it, it's what put me on the path of getting the MoKF run those many years ago, but it has long since disappeared from my stash and I haven't reread it since then. -M

I only read the first issue (thanks to CBR veteran and all-around good guy howyadoin) and it was pretty good; very much in the style of the Velcro and Mordillo story arcs of the original series. It was however a reboot of sorts (as most MAX series are, I undertsnad) since Leiko had recovered the hand she lost in the course of the Shang Chi revival seen in Marvel Comics Presents. Lovely art, that' for sure, and interesting character developments.
I heard that the rest of this miniseries wasn't very good, though. If it is true, it's a pity.

All I recall about the Max miniseries was how much I hated Palmiotti's inks on Gulacy.
