Justice League of America Chapter 14
Written by Mr. Jupiter
Lana Lang-Kent finished tidying up the kitchen in the Kent farmhouse. She and Clark had moved there after leaving Metropolis. They had raised their son, Jon, in Metropolis but after he graduated from college and started working they moved to Smallville. Clark occasionally contributed to the Daily Planet, Lana too, but the couple was content living on the Kent family farm.
Lana looked out the window at her husband as he worked on a fence. She always thought he would end up married to Lois, but was very happy that in the end she had been the one to win Superman's heart. Lana poured a glass of lemonade to take to her husband.
"Break time." She smiled at Clark.
Clark drew his wife close as he sipped the lemonade.
"Such a quiet and peaceful day." Clark smiled.
Lana smiled, remembering their idyllic childhood and teenage years in Smallville.
The duo walked hand in hand towards the porch. They both took a seat in the swing.
"I need to get that tractor looked at." Clark said.
"We could always buy a new one."
"I know. But it was Pa's and as long as it'll run, I want to use it."
The couple chatted as the swing went back and forth. Even though Clark was as powerful as ever, he had tended to let his super senses relax since moving to Smallville. With his son taking over as Superman, his crime fighting days were rare now.
"Such a sweet moment. Almost a shame to disrupt it." came a voice.
Clark leapt to his feet and spun around. Walking towards the Kents was Cyborg.
"Clark!" Lana gasped.
"Get inside Lana. Go. Now!" Clark demanded.
"No need for formality, 'man of steel'. I know all about you and the little woman there." Cyborg laughed.
Clark flew full force at Cyborg, knocking him down.
"I don't know who you are or what you want, but you've made a big mistake coming here." the former Superman growled.
Cyborg's eye glowed red, blasting Clark away.
"You are old, out of practice. This will be easy." Cyborg said, as his arm morphed into a cannon weapon. Lana watched through the window. She grabbed her phone, intent on calling her son.
"Uh uh, red." a female voice came. Lana spun around. Silver Swan smiled and threw her head back. She unleashed her song, shattering all the windows in the Kent farmhouse. Lana dropped to the ground, holding her ears.
"Lana!" Clark cried, turning towards the farmhouse. He saw Cyborg charging at him. Clark was able to grab Cyborg as he approached him, flipping him through the air, and tossing him through the barn. Cows scattered as Cyborg skidded by.
Clark crashed through the house's front door. Lana was lying on the ground, a stream of blood coming from her nose.
"Guess she didn't like my singing." Silver Swan giggled as she winked at Clark. "You remind me...of a boy I used to know...only you..you're older...are you him?"
Clark was beyond angry now. He flew at the Silver Swan as she flew upward, smashing through the first floor ceiling and the second floor of the house. She levitated in the sky as Clark grabbed her. She let her scream loose, but Clark didn't flinch. He wrestled the strange woman, crashing into the ground.
"Hold on Swan, I'm coming!" Cyborg shouted. His arm transformed into a cybernetic machine gun and fired a hail of bullets at Clark.
Clark spun around, thinking the bullets would bounce off of him. He was horrified when he looked down and saw blood pouring from his body. He suddenly felt weak.
"K--kryptonite...." he mumbled, dropping to his knees.
"Correct old man." Cyborg laughed. "Not so tough now, are you!?"
Silver Swan's fists pounded the former Superman into unconsciousness. Cyborg walked to the farmhouse and collected Lana. He spoke into his communicator.
"Cyborg and Silver Swan here, targets in custody."
"Very good. Proceed to headquarters." Brainiac said, his voice uncharacteristically chipper.

Conner Trevor flew high above Beverly Hills. He had endured a long and boring day at school and drifted through clouds, relaxing. His mind wandered to the years he had been held captive by Brainiac and Luthor's niece. His eyes popped open and he banished the thoughts from his head. He was happy now, living with Scott and Jerrica Trevor and serving with Titans West. He and Superman were even getting along. He hoped that one day Katie would be free of the Silver Swan persona and she could return to him and their friends.
BOOM! A ray of energy blasted Superboy from the sky. He hurtled towards the earth and saw a woman with orange skin chasing after him. Regaining his senses, he flew towards her, fists clenched.
"Whoa, that perm is straight out of the 80s! And that fake tan, you sure you're not from Orange County?"
"Your insults mean nothing to me, boy. We'll see how you laugh when I rip your tongue from your mouth!" the alien known as Blackfire scowled.
Using his super speed, Superboy flew behind Blackfire, wrapping her cape around her face. Her hands clawed the fabric trying to see. She blasted away blindly. Superboy restrained her hands behind her, landing on the ground.
"Stop struggling. It's over." the teen of steel said,
"Over for you!" Raven said, arriving in a puff of smoke.
Superboy felt a dread overtake him.
"Yes, that's right...remember...remember what they did to you...all those years...kept prisoner.....nothing but a failed experiment...." Raven whispered.
"No....that..that was a long time ago...overcame that.." Superboy mumbled. His vision blurred. The scenery of Beverly Hills changed around him as he found himself restrained on a table...being cut on...electrocuted....tortured......
He dropped to the ground, writhing.
"What did you do to him?" Blackfire asked. "We weren't ordered to kill him. Yet."
"I know. I simply made those memories of when he was held prisoner by Brainiac come to the surface. He's helpless."
"Still going to inject him, make sure he's truly helpess." Blackfire said as she produced a green syringe filled with a green liquid. She inserted the syringe into Superboy's arm. He cried out in agony.
Raven smiled as she reached her arms upward, transporting herself, Blackfire, and Superboy away in a puff of smoke.

Kara Zor-El had not appeared as Supergirl in public for years. After her cousin Jon assumed the role of Superman, she began to appear less and less frequently. She assumed her identity of Linda Lee almost full-time and tried to blend in, enjoying her life on Earth. She had attended college, worked for a while as an actress on a soap opera, even went back to school to become a guidance counselor. None of these vocations truly pleased her. Recently she had used her earnings from her time on TV to purchase a beach house in Florida. The world had one Supergirl before her and seemed to not need a Superwoman with the Justice League back in action. She looked out over the ocean as she strolled along the beach. She made her way to her home, soaking in the setting sun's rays.
"You shouldn't leave your door open. Anyone could walk in."
"Lois? What are you doing here? It's been so long since I've seen you. Is everything ok?" the startled blonde woman said. She noticed Lois seemed agitated. Kara knew that Lois and Superman's relationship had ended on a very sour note.
"You...you're just like your stupid cousin. So trusting...so naïve." Lois growled.
"Lois, it's ok. Calm down, tell me what's going on." Kara said cautiously approaching her cousin's former love.
"I'll tell you what's going on, 'Supergirl'! You and your stupid family are about to get what coming to them!" Lois smiled, as she lifted a gun from her purse.
"You know that won't hurt me. If you fire in here, the bullets will ricochet and you'll hurt yourself."
"Idiot." Lois said firing at Kara. A single bullet shot out, stopping short at Kara. The bullet hovered and erupted, sending tiny green shards into Kara's skin.
"Lois...what have you done...." Kara said as she dropped to her knees, the effects of the kryptonite shards weakening her.
Lois walked over to the former Supergirl, picking up a lamp. She smashed the lamp over Kara's head again and again until it broke.

After the battle on the island, Superman was desperately trying to get in touch with his family. No doubt someone was out to hurt him or his father with the Kryptonite. Aquaman and Flash were out looking for any signs of the Society. Just as Superman was about to contact his parents, his JLA communicator went off. It was Scott Trevor, Wonder Man.
"Jon, you there?"
Before Superman could reply, Scott started, "I'm worried about Conner. He hasn't come home. He was going to watch Steven for me and Jerrica this afternoon. Then I remembered you and him are getting along and I thought you might have summoned him to help you out with something or he had sought you out. Have you seen him? Jerrica and I are kind of freaking out. He's so good about letting us know where he is. "
"Aw man, I haven't seen him or heard from him. Maybe Titans West had a mission?"
"No, I contacted Jupiter Labs and my Aunt Donna said Red Bird and Slipstream are present and accounted for."
"I don't want to panic you, but I think someone is out to get me, possibly anyone who wears the S." Superman said, a feeling of dread coming over him.
"I'll keep my eyes and ears open. Jerrica and I will head out, see if we can find anything. You need me, let me know and I'll be there."
"Thanks man, I've got to contact my parents and make sure they're ok." Superman said as he flew full-speed towards his parents' home. As he approached the farm, he noticed the barn was leveled and the house was wide open.
"Mom...Dad...." he thought, panic overtaking him. Superman landed looking at the damaged farm. He used his x-ray vision quickly scanning the area.
"Oh God...no..." he gasped, horrible thoughts flooding his head.
He started towards the house, not sure what to do. He looked around the house, furniture scattered and walls ripped apart. There was blood spatter on the floor.
"Calm down, Dad was Superman. Still can handle himself. Whoever was here, Dad gave them quite a fight." Superman said, eyes darting. His super hearing detected something outside.
"Whoever you are....what have you done with the Kents?" he said, trying to stay calm.
Just then, Brainiac emerged from the shadows, skin glowing green and pulsing biodes attached to his head.
"I don't like leaving the safety of my bioship to walk amongst humans, but in this case I'll make an exception." he cold voice came. "And no need for formalities. I know who you are, Jonathon Kent. I know that Clark and Lana are your parents."
Superman felt a rage overcome him. He charged full speed at Brainiac sending the two of them crashing though the corn field. Brainiac reared back and unleashed a beam that sent Superman crashing through power lines. He fell to the ground. Superman looked around and saw the tractor. He picked it up, sending it crashing into Brainiac.
"You...you have sullied my being with this...this contraption!" Brainiac shouted.
"That's not all I'll do!" Superman flew at Brainiac, his rage consuming him.
POW! He punched Brainiac in the face, smashing his nose.
"Tell me what you did with them!" Superman demanded, fists flying.
"You've damaged my bioseals! My suit!" Brainiac huffed, looking at his surroundings with disgust.
BAM! Brainiac landed a punch, knocking Superman back.
"You have more fight in you than I thought." Brainiac said, producing a green dagger.
Superman was so angry, he didn't notice the dagger's glow. He flew headfirst into Brainiac, punching left and right. Brainiac twisted in Superman's grip, turing his arm towards Superman's torso. With a quick motion, he plunged the dagger into Superman's abdomen.
Superman started to punch and staggered back.
"Kryptonite..."
"What is it with you and your family's melodramatic response to this pretty gem? I was thinking of fashioning a pendant for your mother...and Kara."
Superman struggled to stand. Brainiac walked towards him, dagger raised in the air. He plunged the dagger into Superman's back over and over.

Deep within Brainiac's ship, Lana Lang-Kent struggled to open her eyes. She raised her head and saw the dark confines of the vessel, tiny bottles suspended from the ceilings each pulsing with light. She looked and saw her husband at her side.
"Clark!!" she cried, seeing blood covering his chest. She grabbed his hand and found a pulse, sighing relief. Her relief was short-lived as she looked around and saw cells containing Superboy, Supergirl, and her son. All of them bloodied and not moving. She pounded on the cell, energy knocking her back.
"Jon!! Jon!!!" she screamed, desperately hoping her son was still alive.
"Way to keep his secret identity." Lois Lane smirked, as she walked over to her rival.
"Lois? What are you doing here? You've got to help us!"
"And why would I do that? I helped Brainiac and my new friends bring you all here."
"You're crazy! You've always been nuts! No wonder Clark chose you over me."
"I can't wait to rip your head off and make Clark and your pathetic son watch." Lois said, rolling her eyes.
Lana then saw Gorilla God, Blackfire, Raven, Silver Swan, and Karl Kyle emerge. Brainiac stepped forward as well. She noticed that Karl did not have the same look of delight on his face that the others had.
"Brainiac...." Lana gasped.
"Hello Lana. I trust you are comfortable." the alien said in his cold, monotone voice. "It appears your husband and son are still breathing, but barely. The clone and Kal-El's cousin too."
"Why are you doing this? What do you want?" Lana demanded.
"I've hated Superman and his family for years. Isn't patience a human virtue? Well, I've been patient and now our moment has come. An end to the House of El."
Lana looked at Lois. "How could you help him? How could you!?"
"I can answer that, dear lady."
Everyone spun around to see a man with pale green skin and dark hair emerging from a pod. His facial features were like Clark's, Jon's, and Conner's. He wore a pale purple uniform.
"I have been called many names. Maybe you remember me as the actress, Delores Winters. Maybe Gerard Shugel. Even Johnny Thunder. I prefer my true name. Ultra Humanite."
