Whether we like it or not, collectibility is part of the hobby. And high grade keys go for a lot of money these days. Recently a new record was set for one of those keys: In reaction to it, CBR ran an article about the 10 most expensive comics ever sold that might interst some here (and disgust others) CBR articleHere are the 10 (more details in the article itself) I'm assuming the AF #15 at #2 was a private sale and not at public auction, hence their claim about the issue sold on the 128th would be false. I am also curious if you added sales of different copies of each book (not just the highest sale price for each) if the top 10 would be all copies of Action #1. Me, I just can't see paying that much for a comic, even if I had millions/billions in disposable income, I don't think I would spend it unless I was setting up a museum like a Smithsonian of comics or some such. But to each their own I guess. -M

Donald Trump should buy Action Comics #1 just so he can thumb his nose at all his detractors here. There, I said it. Wait...wrong thread. If I have the capital...I would like to own a really pricey book some day.

If you don't care, don't respond.

If you don't care, don't respond. Wondering what makes you think those who don't supprt Trump would.

Oh jeez, we know you have nothing but abject contempt for anything with a Republican denominator...but the digs get kind of old Hal.

I continue to be amazed that a speculator market still even exists for comics. You'd think that they'd be driven out of the industry after the crash happened

At a Victoria Comic Book Store back in the late 90's I saw a Fantastic Four #5 being sold to a gentlemen for $4,100.00 USD - I just can't remember the Grade of the Comic. But, I did oversee the comic being sold that day.

I don't think I was the one who was digging. I thought you were implying something about those who don't support Trump. Were you? Just curious.

I continue to be amazed that a speculator market still even exists for comics. You'd think that they'd be driven out of the industry after the crash happened We're actually in a bit of a back issue bubble right now because (mostly) of all the superhero movies. Prices have gone up substantially since I started buying back issues for serious about ten years ago. A lot of bronze age key issues have doubled or tripled in value - even characters without movie ties have increased in value because there's always a chance that they'll announce a Squirrel Girl movie, and then Marvel Super Heroes Winter Special # 2 will be a hundred dollar book... So prices on first appearances are inching up across the board. The difference between this and the speculator market of the early '90s is that nobody really thinks they're making a lot of money on NEW comics, barring (maybe) variant covers - New Comics can appreciate in value (I've seen 2011s Batman # 1 go for a C Note) but it's fairly rare.
