This was inspired by the Audrey Hepburn/Gregory Peck movie Roman Holiday. However, Hepburn was not spoiled, and Peck was not a samurai.

I never would have thought about it but now that you've mentioned it I can't help but see the connections. That said, I really love the flashback to Usagi's early career; the way he reacted to Mariko's wedding was beautiful, I loved how big his eyes got and the tension between him and the princess was funny.

Such artwork from Stan as the view in Usagi's eyes we can see pain, sorrow, loss, a hint of guilt and the wonder of what may could have been. Supreme story telling all in the eyes. And the begrudging friendship of Usagi and Gen continues to manifest in the mirthful give and take of their saying goodbye while knowing they will meet again. These 2 guys make a great team and Stan nails the friendship tone between them perfectly every time.

This is the story that took me from liking Usagi Yojimbo to loving it. I get teary-eyed at the ending. I'm a sap like that.
