Re reading for the 5th or 6th time Death in the Family . I have also Crisis On Infinite Earths and Watchmen on my yearly re-reading list. Tis may have been asked but does anyone else have storylines that they re-read ever year? Have way too much to read, so doing a yearly re-read isn't something I do. But I will re-read when the mood strikes me for revisiting favorites. I'm not on any type of a time frame or calendar and let it occur as it will.

Mine is at will but it just seems to happen yearly. Though I did reread Infinity Gauntlet twice last year

I finished the JLA Archives last night! The last two issues weren’t so bad because I really like these villains!
JLA #5 - Captain Cold and a bunch of C- and D-Listers break out of prison using Monty Moran’s brilliant plan to shrink down to an inch high and float over the wall on a matchbook attached to a balloon. They don’t call him the Getaway Mastermind for nothing! Then they challenge the JLA and hijinks ensue. The other villains are: the Clock King (a Green Arrow villain), the Puppet Master (from Green Lantern #2), Electric Man (fought Aquaman once) and Professor Menace (a Wonder Woman villain apparently). Monty Moran is a Martian Manhunter villain. (It makes me wonder what Mr. Moth and the Human Squirrel were doing.)
Also, Green Arrow is suspected of betraying the JLA and has to defend himself at a very informal tribunal that took place over coffee and doughnuts.
Also, this is the first appearance of Doctor Destiny.
Also, the JLA focuses on defeating Dr. Destiny and the other villains all escaped and I don’t think this dangling plot line has ever been resolved.
JLA #6 - The first Amos Fortune! I love this guy and I love this story, despite it being seriously dumb. Professor Fortune’s mastery of the science of luck should be described as vaguely as possible!
I think a more-low-key, less cosmic JLA movie with someone like Amos Fortune instead of Darkseid is the step in the right direction that super-hero movies need right now. A bit like Joker - but fun.
I will probably read JLA #6 again before I take it back to the library.

Read the Garth Ennis/Kilian Plunkett (with Tim Bradstreet covers oooooh) 4 issue mini Unknown Soldier. Haven't read this since I bought new off the rack and looking at it with modern circumstances provides some new meaning and thoughts. Very dark, intricate and intriguing story with an ending which leaves you wondering.
We get the story of a moral military man in an immoral and corrupt world who becomes embroiled in what becomes the history of the Unknown Soldier after WWII and into the current days. We see the Soldier become all that he fought against, driven over the brink into insane patriotism. A cruel and ugly, vicious weapon like the foes he once destroyed.
Turns out the CIA agent is being groomed as the next Unknown Soldier by the old Soldier (now in his 80's?) in hopes he can escape from the eternal living Hell of what he has become. Does the old soldier succeed or has he failed? Ennis takes us through the hunt and each discovery until the 2 meet in the end leaving us to make our own decision as to who is under the bandages now.
I consider this a What If/Elseworlds style story with the darkly murderously insane turn of the Old Unknown Soldier. I prefer the tormented soul of a HEROIC man fighting and struggling against his horrible yet so necessary deeds against the Nazi regime. I can understand this version having a more "realistic" sinister turn and thoroughly enjoy what Ennis delivers. Creative, more spy/thriller/mystery while delivering a thought provoking and imaginative take on an Iconic character. This mini-series will make one wild movie adventure, or better yet, a cable television series for 2 or 3 seasons allowing the depth and potency to be fully explored.

I'll certainly agree that the DC super-hero movies need some fun! . I really really liked the Harley Quinn movie! Oh, sure, I could come up with ten things that were annoying or just a bit too stupid. But it got so much right and I was absolutely delighted by Margot Robbie. She IS Harley Quinn.

I'll certainly agree that the DC super-hero movies need some fun! No kidding there... what they really need is a good Plastic Man film-- starring Bruce Campbell as Eel O'Brien/Plas. Just don't hire Gail Simone to do the script. Not impressed with her rendition of Plastic Man at all.

She's perfect for the role. And she DOES play it well.

Only as an animated movie. Animated or not, I think someone could blow the dust off of Keith Giffen and tag him for a screenplay. Biggest problem is, I think Plas would work best as a Golden Age period piece, which would not really fit into the DC film universe. It would probably end up looking like the Spirit movie. ugh.

I love the Spirit movie. I saw it at the theater and I own it on DVD. I’ve seen it a bunch of times. No, it’s not really the Spirit. But if it was really the Spirit, it would be an anthology of short films. I think they did a great job of adapting the material to a feature film. Lots of extra points for Scarlett Johansson as Silken Floss, Paz Vega as Plaster of Paris, and the wonderful wonderful performance of Stana Katic.

Initially, I enjoyed the theater release, but I had recently seen Sin City for the first time only about a year before. The style worked for Sin City, and on the initial viewing of The Spirit.
Unfortunately, upon successive re-watchings, I have become more critical of The Spirit as a Sin City copycat in styling. No problems with the cast, though.
In contrast, I am NOT a big Alec Baldwin fan, but I love the Shadow film from the 90's... I think it was executed pretty well... not perfect, but what film is?

Hmm, I may have to check that out, even though I know nothing about Harley Quinn except for some episodes of Batman:TAS. One of the things that helped the Harley Quinn movie (for me anyway) is that she has so few great comic book storylines. I’ve been a Harley fan for a long time but great Harley stories are few and far between. So when the Harley movie came out, there wasn’t any of that great disappointment I usually feel when a super-hero movie script takes the bare bones of a popular storyline and then ... squirts something on to the screen that doesn’t seem to have understood what made the original story so great. For example, Doctor Doom without a mask! Or Galactus as a weird space cloud. Or ignoring 50 years of great Doctor Strange visuals to remake Inception in the background. Or using Ego the Living Planet but acting like you’d never seen any of the great Kirby visuals of Ego as a planet with a face. Harley Quinn? Great character. I love her. None of my criticisms of the Birds of Prey movie has anything to do with a Harley story they messed up.

While I love Bruce to death, he's getting a little too old same for Patrick Warburton in many a person's dream casting for Shazam! I think Channing Tatum might make for a good Eel O' Brian these days
