One of my Christmas presents was a really nice chess set with sculpted pieces.
I also can't stand that 'en passant' move. I always get blindsided by it and lose a pawn.
There, I am down a point quite foolishly....

I'm a huge fan of 1967-68 The Prisoner tv series....but when Patrick McGoohan gives this explanation for the identity of #1, I want Rover to bite him.
There were episodes when #2 was talking to #1...especially Hammer Into Anvil, when #2 has to call in and confess that he's compromised himself.
Turns out The Village was in England all along...

I would recommend reading I Am (Not) A Number: Decoding The Prisoner by Alex Cox. His theory about Number One blew my mind!

Is it true that the Prisoner is the next chapter in the Secret Agent Man series also starring Mcgohan ?

Is it true that the Prisoner is the next chapter in the Secret Agent Man series also starring Mcgohan ? While I won’t claim to be an expert, a lot has been written about this. It’s never been stated outright. There are hints. I believe a photo of Danger Man is seen in one The Prisoner episode. But it’s never been conclusively stated. I think it might be one of those “believe if you want to, make of it what you will” scenarios.

I still find it hard to believe I'd watched the whole series twice before my daughter, who was watching it for the first time, pointed out that the saucer under the teacup in the opening sequence breaks when No 6 pounds the table. I have NO idea if it is of any significance (and doubt it) but it did make me wonder what other "right in front of your face" stuff I had missed.

The Schizoid Man is my favourite episode...I get loopy in the head just trying to describe it. Jane Merrow also looked like my aunt when she was younger.

I loved the Prisoner. I was really disappointed with the end of the Western episode "Living In Harmony", though, when it was revealed {Spoiler: Click to show}it was just another drug-induced fantasy. It would have been much better to let the story stand as a "real" example of the universality of the show's themes.

I don't recall how it first came to me but it's long been my understanding that #6, or at least an aspect of him, was #1, and that the message of the show was that "we create our own prisons." I know it doesn't make literal sense as you point out but by the end of the series I think it has transcended into metaphor.

We didn't buy fireworks this year, nor did some of the other neighbours. This New Year might be pretty quiet.
There, I miss the display.

I just thought about that. The 31st in NYC is a madhouse at Times Square, but not this year.

Likewise, London usually has big public parties in Trafalga Square and by the London Eye, but not this year. My wife and I often have a small party on NYE at our house, but not this year. We're planning to just order a curry and play some board games. Probably classics like Backgammon, Dominos and Draughts (that's Checkers to you yanks), along with newer things like 221b Baker Street and 7 Wonders: Duel.
Rock 'n' roll, eh?

So is backgammon - daughter number two and I have just started playing but with mixed results as the rules in the book we consulted are ambiguous at times and we found we'd been playing it wrongly for a week. We'll get there.
