How did any of you make it out of the late 90s without being forced to watch it? Impressive.

For those who haven't seen it, it's about a big ship that hits an iceberg. Hey, spoilers!! Geez Louise.

I managed to see Titanic two times over the course of its box office run and avoided paying for it either time.
That fell to the two girls whom I saw it with on separate dates.

WHY are people like this???
A friend of mine sends me a Youtube link to some kind of "news" channel claiming that the eventual COVID vaccine is going to cause countless deaths and will alter people's genetic material.
Of course, the 10 minute clip is utter nonsense, a pathetic mix of scientific terms thrown at random and half-truths presented in a dishonest way. Checking the credentials of the Youtube channel, I find that it was founded by (I kid you not) a Swiss sect leader (head of the fundamentalist Organic Christ Generation, no less), which flirts with Holocaust deniers. The channel itself is mostly peddling conspiracy theories. For crying out loud!
Now that friend of mine is not an ignoramus of anything. Why can't they bloody check their sources, especially when reading or hearing something that flies in the face of the scientific consensus? Being a skeptic means that one should keep a critical mindset, not reject common sense to replace it with any arrant nonsense that the internet provides!
There! I said it. Fuming.

One of the downsides of the internet in general and social media in particular is that it often reveals that people who we previously thought were intelligent, rational, right-minded individuals are in fact idiots.

The biggest advantage of social media is ANYONE can make their voice heard! The biggest downside is that anyone can make their voice heard.

It's horrible when it happens. An old friend got in touch recently, I was glad to hear his voice. we used to get on really well, he was a inventive fun guy, I don't know how we lost contact with each other there was no dramatic rift or anything we just drifted apart. Out of the blue he phoned me. It was just like old times. Then I happened to mention something that pushed some button - and he was off on this demented (not very code worded) anti-semitic rant about the secret services from a country at "one end of the Mediterranean Sea" genetically manipulating Covid to attack people of Iranian extraction. It was sheer bloody garbage. I listened to him for five minutes non stop then I realised he was repeating himself. He was on a loop tape. He'd got back to the start again. I found a reason to hang up and binned his number.

Last time I took a gal to a movie on a date, I wanted to watch The Relic and we ended up watching Scream. The things some of us men will do .....

I thought they were writing a story under instructions to have people get to see as much of the ship as possible, thus all the running around!

Later on, it turns out that the iceberg was the ship's father all along.
