It's a measure of a society how they treat their most vulnerable, weakest and poorest members. As someone who was born in, grew up with, and (I hope for my kids' sake) will be certified dead with a state-run, free (for the most part), socialised healthcare system, I look at what you guys have to live with in North America with incredulity and despair. *A-Hem*! "In the United States", if you don't mind. Canada's provinces each have their own universal healthcare system, where my family and I always received the best of care, entirely free of charge! (I summon the patriotic reaction! )

I'd say that's a case of being flat wrong more than actual lying. There are those who genuinely believe that trickle-down economics work. (Others believe that for Marxism too, for that matter). There are people who believe in the Easter Bunny too. They’re called children and we don’t put them in positions of power. When I was a kid, Reagan was President, my heroes were Alex P. Keaton and JR Ewing, and I really thought trickle-down economics was brilliant, and didn't understand why Democrats were so dumb. Then I grew up.

I will admit I was covering my arse with vagueness there as I wasn't sure how the Canadian system worked - I'm sure Canada (being from all accounts a lot more caring and politer nation than its neighbour) is much more enlightened than I may have implied.

I mean, geez, trickle down economics only falls apart because of the fundamental and inescapable selfish facets of human nature and objective reality. Other than that, totally cool!

You mean like how universal healthcare is the equivalent of Communism? Given how many capitalist-driven democracies have such programs, I don't see how he could make that conclusion, other than the AMA paid him to voice such claims to keep their fees artificially high. Erm, I hope you guys realize that I'm actually aware of all the crap Reagan lied about. James is a worthy successor to his father; among other things, he pretty accurately predicted what happened in late 2008 - not by using complex, arcane economic forecasting models, but intelligence and common sense.
No, I'm sure you were; just wanted to highlight some examples for the younger generation, who have been fed the myth.

Didn't mean to open a can of worms about healthcare. I've direct experience interfacing with systems in both Canada and the U.S., but for Canada it's mostly through the lens of one province that has some major swings in it's government. The current administration is promising to restore or improve things another group deliberately undermined or shifted in subcontracting and outsourcing ideological fashion. It's a rough balance going between a couple of competing motivated ideologies... if anyone figures out how to get people motivated to support something practical, balanced, and with a bit of everything, a smorgasbord party with everyone working together, let me know. By the way, hospital food in Montreal is from a different planet compared to B.C. Out here you'd think they are trying to drive people out a.s.a.p. with our horrible subcontracted and outsourced food 'units'. Also top marks for the cafeteria at Seattle's Virginia-Mason! Always had Ivar's chowder hot and by the cup or bowl when I was there!

You guys want to hear a crazy story about healthcare? I recently had to get a COVID-19 test due to having some of the secondary symptoms that are common among all respiratory things, none of the major COVID ones, but these days you can't be too careful, so as a precaution I called my doc and made the appointment. Wanting to get it done ASAP, I tried to go early to the urgent care near my house. Called them so they KNEW why I was there, checked in online, etc.
Went in to pay, and realized the front desk associate was not wearing a mask. I said something like hey, you know why I'm here, you wanna mask up and she DECLINED. I was floored. Shortly left the facility, cancelled the appointment, and went to my doc as usual. I contacted the clinic's corporate office about it.
If they tolerate being that careless during a pandemic in a medical facility for a client there to be tested for the disease in question, they have shattered their credibility. Un-freakin'-believable.
Oh, and for the record, I passed the test.

We have them up here now too, stopping traffic and trains in Vancouver to protest against wearing masks. I don't understand what they think they're doing at all. I'm open to explanations but so far nothing chanted or said makes any sense to me. If they think it's all a big hoax/conspiracy that should be very easily disproven. "Strange days have found us".

I wish people would stop making the remark "oh you're a left-hander..." SO WHAT if I am?
There, I typed it with fingers from both hands.

I didn't notice my mum was left handed till I left home. I came back from college at the Christmas break and suddenly found I couldn't do anything in her kitchen because it was all 'the wrong way round'. She'd laid it out for herself when she remodelled it when they moved in and I just grown up reaching round awkwardly to get to things because, well, that's just the way you reached round to get things in that kitchen. After a few months away and having got used to a right-handed kitchen...

I wish people would stop making the remark "oh you're a left-hander..." SO WHAT if I am? Well, for starters, it makes you harder to fight in kumite!

I'm a natural lefty, but when my mom noticed me favoring my left hand when I was really small, she made me use my right hand instead. Even so, I still hold a knife and fork opposite from most people. Otherwise, though, I agree: so what? It's not like you have a horn growing out of your forehead (although that would be kind of cool, now that I think about it...)

I started out as ambidextrous, in school, switching the pencil between hands when we would practice writing (when my hand would grow tired); but, just kind of evolved out of it. I did that through about the 3rd grade, then never did again, after. Now, I can barely form letters with it, unless I really concentrate.

Weird, I have the left-handed but trained to become right-handed thing too. I'm south paw in some things anyway. I could've been a great puppeteer!
