Justice League of America Chapter 10
Written by Mr. Jupiter
"Please....I've used all my energy to get me here. I do not wish to fight.." the slight woman known as Raven said.
"How did you get here?" demanded White Canary.
Fate stood by silently, studying the woman.
"Just need a minute...need to steady myself...so tired..." the woman gasped.
White Canary cautiously approached the woman. Fate was silent.
"I...I came to warn...you....an evil, an ancient evil is on the way. Only the combined might of the Justice League can stop it." Raven uttered. "Don't let him take over this world like he has so many others...."
"What are you talking about? Slow down, take your time." White Canary said, feeling she could trust the woman.
"White Canary....step away from her. I detect evil, an unbridled evil in her." Fate demanded, gold energy pouring from his hands.
Raven looked at White Canary and smiled. "Too late." she said, the red gemstone in her forehead started to glow. White Canary gasped as Raven's body slowly turned black, like a living liquid sculpture.
"Canary!! Get back!!" Fate cried, sending a bolt of mystic energy at the woman.
Raven hissed and with a wave of her hand sent Fate's bolt back at him, knocking him down.
"Now my dear, you will help find the information I need." Raven said as she concentrated on White Canary. Raven's skin turned black and transformed into a liquid like substance. She poured herself into White Canary through her eyes, nose, and mouth.
White Canary struggled as her skin turned pale. Her eyes became milky white and veins popped out all over body. Her pure white costume turned black. The last thing the White Canary saw was pure darkness as a feeling of hoplessness overtook her.

"Canary, come on. Wake up!" Fate demanded. He cradeled his teammate's head in his lap.
She was convulsing wildly, clawing at her own throat.
Just then the transporter tube began to sparkle with light. The Flash had arrived.
"I got here as quickly as I could, what happened?" he asked, seeing White Canary.
"Some woman got in here. I couldn't stop her. She's done something to Sara." Fate answered. "I hit the priorty alert."
"Yeah, I got here as fast as I could. The new Golden Glider was terrorizing Central City. Had to get her off the streets." The Flash answered, scooping the White Canary in his arms and speeding her to the medical bay. With lightning speed, he placed her in a bed and started all kinds of medical tests.
A couple of hours later, Green Lantern, Black Canary, and Superman had arrived.
"She's resting. I don't know what this woman did to her, but it's serious. It's like Sara isn't..."
"Isn't what? Spit it out, Flash!" Black Canary demanded.
"I'm sorry Laurel...it's as if Sara isn't in there." Flash replied.
"Like her soul is gone." Fate added.
Flash continued, " Her heart is barely beating, her other vitals...very weak." his head dropped.
"What are you saying? She's dying?" Black Canary asked, tears streaming.
"I don't know." Flash replied.
"Before I passed out, I saw this woman--she called herself Raven--it was as if she entered Sara's body. Like her soul entered Sara. I detected evil...like the Devil himself in that woman.
Whatever she is, it's beyond my knowledge. I must retreat to my tower...consult with others. Laurel, I promise you. I will do everything within my power to save your sister." Fates's words seemed to calm Black Canary.
"Come on, BC. If anyone can figure this out, it's Fate." Green Lantern said, putting her arm around her teammate. Fate departed for his tower sanctuary.
"I just reviewed the surveillance footage." Superman said, joining the group. "Looks like our girl is a teleporter. She literally arrived and departed in a puff of smoke." Superman opened a portable viewer and showed the others. "See, here it's as if she's taken control of Sara."
The others watched the footage as the possessed White Canary walked over to a computer console.
"She's using Canary to access our private files." The Flash said.
"What's she looking for?" Green Lantern asked.
"Looks like she's downloading dossiers on each of us, plus our information on Titans West. And then she did a geological scan. Looks like she wanted information about an island in the Pacific." Superman said.
"So, she comes in here, hurts Sara and then plans a tropical vacation? None of this makes sense." Flash said.
"No it doesn't. And I don't like that we have been compromised." Superman added.
"We need to find this..this witch. Make her help Sara." Black Canary said, fists clenched.
"And figure out what she's up to." Green Lantern replied.
Black Canary took a seat next to her sister. She took her cold hand. The others watched silently.

Gotham City...
A huge benefit gala was underway. Despite receiving the alert, Marti Wayne was dressed in an evening gown, wearing very expensive jewelry. She saw that several of her teammates had responded to the summons, so she went about her own business. The Gotham City Diamond Exchange was hosting a benefit for the childrens hospital. The Wayne Foundation was a major donor and Marti was expected to be there. Marti made her way through the crowd, shaking hands and making conversation.
"Marti, how nice to see you." an older lady said. "And where are your parents? Where are Bruce and Silver?"
"My parents are on holiday in Switzerland. I'm the official family representative tonight."
The old lady prattled on, much to Marti's chagrin. She noticed someone familiar across the room. "Pardon me, I see someone I must say hello to."
Marti made her way across the room to a beautiful brunette. It was Selina Kyle.
"Good evening, Martha." the former Catwoman smiled as she sipped a martini.
"It's Marti."
"Marti, Martha whatever. I see your parents couldn't be bothered with attending this event. No love for the sick children of Gotham?"
Selina Kyle had no love for Bruce and Silver Wayne. After a torrid romance with both Bruce Wayne and Batman, their love faded when Selina briefly returned to a life of crime. Feeling he could no longer trust her, Bruce eventually rekindled his romance with Silver St. Cloud and married her. Selina had since reformed, but regretted losing Bruce Wayne. Selina Kyle was now a wealthy philanthropist, dedicated to perserving feline wildlife in Africa. She also was the designer of her own line of jewelry. She used the proceeds to fund her philanthropy.
Just then, a handsome young man joined the women. Marti noticed how good looking the man was. Tall, tan, dark hair, five o'clock shadow, emerald green eyes, and he filled out his tuxedo nicely.
"You can put your eyes back in your head, Martha. This is my nephew, Karl. He just finished his degree in international business. He's been living in Spain attending university there."
"Nice to meet you Karl." Marti smiled.
"The pleasure is all mine." Karl said, kissing her hand.
"Would you excuse us a moment, Karl." Selina asked.
"Of course." the young man smiled.
"Martha, don't get any ideas about my nephew. I saw the way you looked at him...and him at you. I won't have my nephew getting mixed up with your family. It won't go well. I know firsthand."
"Why don't we let Karl decide for himself." Marti smiled, turning on her heels and walking towards Karl. "I'd like to dance." she said to young man.
Karl smiled and took her hands, escorting her to the dance floor.
Selina Kyle's eyes narrowed watching the duo waltz around the dancefloor.

Blackfire paced in The Society's meeting room. A group of men and women dedicated to evil had reformed the Secret Society of Super Villains, calling themselves The Society. Suddenly Raven arrived in a puff of black smoke.
"Did you get in?" the green eyed alien demanded.
"I did." Raven smiled.
"I retrieved the coordinates we need...and I was able to feed while I was there."
"Please tell me you devoured the Kryptonian? The Thanagarian?"
"Sorry, no. Just a mortal. She's still kicking around inside me, but I'll assimilate her soon enough....and then I'll dispel her. She was a trusting fool. I made up some gibberish about an ancient evil on its way and she fell for it."
"Enough of your prattle, woman. Give me the coordinates!" a giant gorilla growled.
"Ah, Gorilla God. So impatient." Blackfire laughted.
"Our leader is growing impatient." the gorilla huffed. Gorilla God was the son of Gorilla Grodd. His intellect and evil outshined even his father's. When Gorilla God's powers began to manifest, he slew his own father and had battled the Flash on occasion. He was an arrogant, haughty being, as well as being merciless and cruel.
Just then, then the holographic video screen in The Society's headquarters popped up.
"Society, status report." the female voice came.
"Coordinates retrieved." Raven replied.
"Very good. Proceed with freeing Mr. Stone and the Silver Swan. Leave Vanessa Kapatelis in the prison mental hospital. I have no use for her anymore."
"Copy that." Gorilla God said.
The viewer went dark. The woman who had addressed The Society turned and faced a green skinned man.
"Our plans are right on track." She said to Brainiac. He and Lois Lane were inside his robotic skull shaped life pod. Bottled cities glistened in the darkness as orbs of light pulsed. Brainiac sat in his chair, biowires connecting to his head.
"Yes, they are Miss Lane. Soon we will both have our revenge on the Superman family. Despite my dislike for....humans, I appreciate our partnership."
Lois Lane crossed her arms and smiled.
