Justice League of America Chapter 7
Secret Origin part 2

The Flash sped along the highway, glancing up at Green Lantern and Cerdian. Green Lantern was keeping pace with him thanks to her power ring. Up ahead, the Flash noticed two blondes, each on motorcycles.
"Well, helloooo." he thought to himself. He snapped out of his instant infatuation on the two blondes when he remembered his girlfriend, Sandy. He sped up to the two girls and they pulled off to the shoulder. Green Lantern and Cerdian landed.
"Hello Flash." the blonde in white said.
"Hi." Flash said noticing the girls' outfits. Both were blonde bombshells.
"You two remind me of Black Canary." Green Lantern said looking them up and down.
"That's because she's our mother. We've been following your adventures on tv." The girl in black said to Flash and Green Lantern. "We've decided to become heroes as well."
"Cool!" Flash replied. "Looks like a mini Justice League here!"
"Or Society." Green Lantern added.
"My sister and I saw the earthquake on the news. We've been driving down the coast, helping people out that we've come across. Heard a rumor that Starro is back? We heard he, er... it was spotted in Beverly Hills." The Black Canary explained.
"That's where we're headed." Cerdian said.
White Canary asked, "And who are you, a new Aquaman?"
"For now, I guess I am." Cerdian smiled.
"Look, if Starro is back we're going to need all the help we can get." Green Lantern said. "Why don't the two of you join us?" Green Lantern said, secretly hoping this team up would lead to a new Justice Society forming.
The sisters looked at each other. "Sounds good to us!" they said in unision.
Soon, the 5 new heroes were travelling together down the lonely highway.
Back in Los Angeles....
"I'm sorry, Miss Wayne. With the earthquake we encountered this morning and the Starro sighting, I'm afraid we're ill-prepared for our quarterly report meeting. Can we reschedule? I hate to ask since you flew here all the way from Gotham.
"It's no trouble at all." the beautiul platinum blonde replied. "In fact, I think my time would be better spent reviewing the reports. We can meet anytime. I'll even fly your staff to Gotham."
"That'd be wonderful. Haven't been to Gotham in years. Not since your father retired as Wayne Enterprises CEO. I heard there's even a new Batgirl in Gotham these days."
"I think she prefers Batwoman." Martha 'Marti' Wayne smiled as she shook the man's hand and exited out of the lobby.
"Finding Starro will me more fun than some boring meeting. Time for Batwoman to make her west coast debut."
A small town outside the city limits of Beverly Hills
Wonder Man flew through the air with lightning speed. Starro had led 100s of people to a quicklime factory and ordered the people under his mental sway to burn it to the ground.
"Had to follow Starro until my buzz wore off. A drunk Wonder Man isn't much good in a fight. Got to put that fire out. Of course, I should have remembered that Mother and her friends defeated Starro with quicklime the first time. He'd want this factory taken out. Hope Lowe's or Home Depot has some on the shelf." Wonder Man thought as he crashed through a burning wall.
"Help...help us!!" a group of workers cried.
"Don't worry, Wonder Man is here. Grab my hands. Everyone is getting out." he smiled.
Within minutes Wonder Man had gotten the workers to safety.
Starro levitated in the air and turned towards him.
"You wear the uniform of the Amazons. You must be dealt with." Starro said.
Wonder Man flew towards him, lasso twirling. He was swatted away by a tentacle.
"You! The mindless creatures!" Starro shouted at the group from Beverly Hills that he had under his mental control. "I have no use for you anymore. March into the fire and destroy yourselves."
"No! Wonder Man shouted. "No way I can save them all!" Wonder Man flew to front of the pack of people. "Stop!" He tried to push them back.
Starro laughed. "Just like a pathetic Amazon. Save the innocents while I escape."
Despite wanting to go after Starro, Wonder Man knew he had to save the people. He twirled his lasso, roping the masses. He strained to hold them back. Minutes later, he secured the lasso to another building in the industrial park.
"I command you to stop!" he shouted, gripping the lasso.
Suddenly all the people came out of their trance, confused looks on their faces. Wonder Man relaxed for a moment. He noticed a winged man fly through the air.
"Was that Golden Eagle? I know he still appears from time to time. Guess he's trying to help with Starro too. Wish I could help him, but I have a fire to put out. " the male Amazon throught. Unknown to Wonder Man, the new Hawkman was trailing Starro.
"Need some help?" came a voice.
Wonder Man spun around. Before him stood Aquaman, The Canary Twins, Flash, and Green Lantern.
"Whoa. Am I still drunk?" he gasped.
"Nope, you aren't seeing things." Green Lantern smiled.
"Not sure who you all are, but I'm happy to see if you....that is if you're here to help." Wonder Man said suspiciously.
"We are." Aquaman said. "Flash, do your thing."
The Flash gave a thumbs up, running circles around the burning factory. Seconds later, he has sucked all the oxygen from the fire and it was quickly extinquished.
"Who are you folks? Nice costumes by the way." he said, looking at the Canary Twins.
"No time for introductions. We've got to stop Starro." Green Lantern said.
"Where'd it go?" White Canary asked.
"A giant floating starfish shouldn't be too hard to find. Just saw Golden Eagle going after him too." Wonder Man said.
"Flash, do some recon, see if you can find him. We'll meet up with you." Aquaman asked. The Flash took off.
Green Lantern looked around. Another new hero in their ranks. She was sure they'd soon have Starro on the ropes. "And Superman hasn't even shown up. This is our day to shine" she thought.
Miles away, Hawkman soared through the sky. He was keeping his distance until he figured out what Starro was up to.
"Looks like someone in a costume had that factory fire under control. Wonder who that was." Hawkman thought. Soon, Hawkman realized he had tailed Starro out of California and into the Nevada desert. "What could he want here?" Hawkman noticed a rusted sign posted by the US government for trespassers to keep out and that area was not safe.
"What do I want here, Thanagarian....or are you Egyptian...I cannot read you." Starro's voice boomed.
"Whatever it is, you won't get the chance to take it!" Hawkman yelled, as he swung his mace.
"Ah, another fan of the Justice League. A Hawkman imposter. It will be my pleasure to kill you. You see, there is nuclear residue here. I simply want to absorb it. A snack never hurt anyone."
Hawman charged at Starro. He struck him several times with his mace. Hawkman was still not quite adept at manuevering his wings in combat. Starro struck at him, knocking him off balance, and Hawkman dropped his mace.
"I don't need that to hurt you." Hawkman said, his face grimaced. He struck Starro with his fists.
"Enough!!" Starro said and his tentacles retracted inward. Hawkman noticed Starro was changing colors. He then released his tentacles, emitting a powerful blast that sent Hawkman crashing through several abandonded houses that had been built in the World War Two era. He had landed in a mock town used for nuclear bomb testing.
"Can't take a hit like that again..." Hawkman thought. He felt a couple of ribs that had snapped. "Nth metal in my uniform...will heal me....just need a minute..."
"A minute I will not give you." Starro laughed. Starro uprooted another abandoned prop house and sent it crashing on top of Hawkman. He then blasted the destroyed homes, setting them on fire.
"That will keep you occupied for the time being." Starro mused, levitating into the air and heading back towards California.
A few hours later, The Flash contacted his friends.
"Starro's spotted. Palm Springs. Some woman with pink hair is trying to fight him. She's holding her own, but needs help."
"On our way Flash." Green Lantern said into a communicator.
"Is that an old JLA communicator?" Wonder Man asked.
"It is. Flash and I work together often. We....well, we 'borrowed' them from his dad."
"I see." Wonder Man grinned.
Green Lantern created a giant green bubble to carry the others to Palm Springs.
In the desert, Jem lashed out at Starro. She sent brightly colored concussive blasts at the alien.
"AGGHHH!! That hurt my eye...." Starro recoiled in pain.
"Well done lady!" Flash smiled, running up beside Jem. "Hey! You...you're her, you're----AGHHHHH!!!" Flash screamed as Starro blasted him, sending him crashing into Jem.
"Nice to meet you Flash." she said, helping the speedster to his feet. "I was in L.A. when the quake hit and then saw Starro. Figured he caused the earthquake. No one messes with my city."
"Nice, but I had no idea you could do all this super hero stuff. Not that I mind."
"My powers seem to be changing. I can do more than just project holograms."
"We'll learn all about what you can do later, Pinkie." Green Lantern said, arriving with the others.
"Great Hera! That's Jem!!" Wonder Man said with enthusiasm.
"Guys, we can all be starstruck and get autographs later. We have bigger problems to deal with right now!" Black Canary said, pointing at Starro. "Cover your ears."
Black Canary let her sonic scream loose. Starro turned towards her.
"Stupid woman." he muttered, lashing out with one of his tentacles, lifting her into the air.
"Hey ugly! You can't do that to one of my friends!" Wonder Man said, charging the alien with lasso in hand. Starro moved quickly and wrapped a tentacle around him. Wonder Man lassoed the tentacle and fought.
Green Lantern blasted away with her power ring as she was ensnared by a tentacle. Jem sent concussive blasts, the area lighting up in different colors. White Canary attacked with her battle staves. The Flash spun his arms at super speed, knocing Starro off balance.
"Keep it up!" The Flash cried.
The group battled Starro with fury. Green Lantern saw a flying man, smoke pouring off his body, coming towards the group. "Golden Eagle?" she whispered.
Hawkman swooped by Starro grabbing one of his tentacles with his bare hands, ripping it away.
"You...You actually hurt me!! I thought that fire would have killed you!" Starro screamed.
"It would have, if not for the Nth metal in my uniform! You will harm no one else today!" Hawkman retorted. The group all looked at the winged man wondering who he was.
"Quick introduction, please call me Hawkman! And anyone fighting Starro is cool with me!" the man said, freeing Black Canary. Aquaman noticed the dismembered tentacle was already growing back.
Aquman charged towards Starro. He yelled as he lept into the air, plunging his trident into Starro's eye.
"ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!" Starro screamed so loud, the ground shook. Gore oozed from the wound. His tentacles relaxed, releasing the heroes.
"Enough of this! I destroy you and everything in my path now! You forget I have nuclear capabilities! The west coast is no more!!!! I will destroy the west coast, then the rest of this miserable planet! I will feed on its energies and then seek out other worlds to destroy! Embrace your deaths!"
"The air....it's getting hotter." Aquaman said. "I can feel the moisture in my body drying up."
"Oh no....no....He...He's going nuclear." White Canary said, looking towards her sister. She noticed the sky turn black and the desert ground started to shake. Rabbits, snakes, and lizards all scurried away. Lighthing flashed across the pitch black sky.
Starro's color changed from dull gray to a bright gold as he swelled in size, nuclear energy pouring off his tentacles.
