I fear that only one of my 12 will be in others lists... But alas, as it's Christmas time and we're supposed to surprise, I guess it's maybe alright... We'll just regift it if we don't like it It's the Christmas thing to do right? -M

It would be a tad out of topic if it wasn't. It should be fine if the pick has collaborated with other people, but IMHO, it should only be a pick because of works where they did all the heavy lifting, as you eloquantly put it.

Not sure why Miller would provoke controversy. No matter what you think of his politics, he's inarguably one of the most important creators of the past three decades and has had a significant impact on the (mainstream) comics scene. Cei-U! Did NOT pick Frankie Boy, btw! The artwork. No debate about the impact his writing has had upon the industry.

The main constant in Miller's work is IMHO its quality storytelling.

I look forward to unique selections, so I will be anxiously awaiting yours. Exactly, this is just the kind of thing I'm looking forward to! For myself, I already feel a little bad that my lost will be the usual suspects and most likely won't contain any surprises or discoveries for anyone here. But I'll also enjoy seeing more familiar names, such as those my own list will be composed of, from different POVs.

I know one of mine will certainly be a controversial choice (no, it's NOT John Byrne, shax ) I expect a raging debate on Frank Miller. Wonder if that's who you're thinking of. Since it is "favorite" and not "best," Frank Miller was an easy dismissal.

Am I correct in saying the same comic strip, used in different eras, can be used more than once if different cartoonists did the job?

One thing I want to say for newcomers-in the past we have held off talking about honorable mentions and people not on the list until all 12 days are done so not to lessen the drama/suspense of the reveals. The week between X-Mas and New Years is filled with that type of talk extending the conversation about the event, so I hope this year follows suit with people not spoiling their choices or left off creators early.
I understand wanting to talk about the ones that missed, boy do I, with this topic I could do a top 25 and still leave off creators of some of my very favorite comics of all time, but mum on who made and did not make the list from me even though it's killing me to leave some of these creators off (I just can't find a place for them as it would kill me more to take one of the ones who did make the list off).

I get too excited and want to talk about this stuff NOW. I was also the kid who tried to find where my parents hid my presents weeks before Chanukah. If there's a positive to be taken from all the spoilers leaked thus far, though, it's that there's a LOT more to choose from than some people were previously imagining. It shouldn't be a struggle to come up with 12 for this assignment. So I won't be mentioning that my #1 is Todd McFarlane, nor that my #2 is John Byrne, and I definitely won't talk about Rob Liefeld being my #3.

Rule question: I've got a guy I want to put on my list who doesn't have any verified writing credits that I know of. However, he worked during the Golden Age, and is believed by fans to have written certain titles and stories. But nobody actually knows if he did or not.
Valid? Or invalid?

If either Jerry Bails' Who's Who of American Comic Books or the Grand Comics Database credit your choice as possibly scripting their own work, I'll allow it. Fair enough? Cei-U! I summon the higher authority!

I summon the higher authority! The GCD lists a single instance of him being credited as a writer. Interestingly, it was in a reprint for an old story from the same publisher that was originally uncredited. But... that's it. I'll probably just leave him off.
