Ever since 1981, when JN-T used the idea to stir up press interest. Thanks for that, John... It will happen sooner or later. The media attention such a move would generate is enough to ensure that, if you ask me. I agree that it would be a bad move though, but then, I really dislike it when heroes suddenly change gender or a female is shoehorned into a pre-existing male persona, like She-Hulk or female Thor, for example. Contrary to what such a move is (presumably) meant to achieve, I think there's something inherently sexist about it. It's like the writers or producers who sanction such a move are paying lip service to gender equality, while simultaneously admitting that a woman couldn't carry the lead in an entirely new role. As if a female lead in sci-fi or fantasy could only work when it's tied into a pre-existing and successful male role. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something about your opinion that I don't agree with. I think a female lead in sci-fi and/or fantasy could, can, and will work but along the way, some barriers will have to be broken. What better barrier than by having a female take over such a male dominated lead role and be able to maintain that role's popularity (and perhaps ratings). Such a success could lead to more female-envisioned roles and characters. However, while you include producers and writers in this measure, you omit the other factor, the fanboys. How many will (and have) rise up against such gender changes in sheer anger on the basis of the sheer idea without even attempting to judge it's merits by watching/reading it? How can you extol the virtues of female leads in these genres if you aren't willing to support other such gender changes that could help in creating those very roles? To cast a female for the role of the Doctor would be a daunting challenge. In the potential pressure, expectation, and backlash. But also lay blame for the idea upon Davies and Moffatt. Their handling of regeneration over these new seasons certainly helped raise this possibility. Given the scope and scale of the process, switching gender seems easy.

Saw this on the BBC website just now and thought of this thread. What's interesting is that, apparently, the bookmaker's favourite actors to succeed Capalldi are mostly women. Looks like we may be getting a female Doctor sooner than I thought... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-39093558

That's the 'in' thing now I suppose. The Master has become a female so now The Doctor has to become one too. It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but there you go. The reality is if it didn't happen this time, it would probably happen next time anyway, so they might as well get on with it. Of course, bookmakers can be wrong... but a female Doctor is only a matter of time!

Roger Caesar Marius Bernard de Delgado Torres Castillo Roberto was born today in 1918, in Whitechapel. As the original Master, he was Britain's favourite TV villain until his untimely death in 1973. If only he were still with us, we could assist him in the destruction of humanity!

I feel Delgado's Master was so much more subtle, sinister and evil than Ainley's version. You could see and feel the respect and sometimes fear that Pertwee's Doctor had for the Master. While I do love Ainsley's interpretation i thing without Delgado's original malevolent machination's to draw from Ainsley would just be over the top character acting.

Ran across this from Titan: On the one hand, this handily falls within Titan's publishing venture. They acquired the DW license and have just run wild with it. The wallet may not like it but this seems like a bit of an unusual stretch though. On the other hand, I quite liked that Christmas special, the Ghost was a cool, clever examination of the classic Clark-Lois-Superman synergy. So I may check this out after all.

Is this still digital only? I'd buy it, but I don't do digital, I need a physical copy.
