Granted, any ISIS low-lifes should be refused entry, but what about the thousands that are just trying to get out of Syria to survive? Improve the screening process to try to weed ISIS out, sure, but virtually all of these refugees are just innocent victims of these same cowards. An ISIS low-life is not likely to reveal himself as that, the strategy would be to 'blend in' and look just as beleaguered and downtrodden as genuine refugees. SCENARIO: 7 of them come in, praising America openly but silently wishing to seize the White House, cut off Obama's head and turn the USA into a Muslim province. Hardly likely in the long haul but in the short term, bombs go off, Americans die, and the scum hide among their own to remain indistinguishable. I can't blame the hard ass Governors for not wanting them around. Humanitarian or not. Your people will get killed. And what then? Another France? I'm intrigued that Anonymous has stepped in. A few facts, courtesy The Economist: “After refugees are referred by an American embassy or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, they are screened by Department of State Resettlement Service Centers all over the world. They undergo multiple investigations of their biographies; biometric checks of their fingerprints and photographs; in-depth interviews by highly trained Department of Homeland Security officers; medical screenings as well as investigations by the National Counterterrorism Center and by intelligence agencies. The entire process can take longer than three years. If a potential terrorist is determined to enter America to do harm, there are easier and faster ways to get there than by going through the complex refugee resettlement process. Of the almost 750,000 refugees who have been admitted to America since 9/11, only two Iraqis have arrested on terrorist charges; they had not planned an attack in America, but aided al-Qaeda at home.” As usual, the conservatives are the first to want to jettison every value that our nation says it exemplifies the second they can whip up fear among their supporters. They want “boots on the ground,” but their sons and daughters won’t be wearing them. They want mosques closed, but they rant about a war on Christians. They want the borders closed, no refugees accepted (unless maybe they’re Christians), and the President to talk tough. Because that always solves problems. The “hard-ass governors” (whose ranks shamefully include our own Ivy League-educated, charter-school-loving, union-hating man of privilege here in the somewhat progressive Commonwealth of Massachusetts) are cowardly, xenophobic, Obama-hating panderers who’d tell you that your shit was shinola if they thought it would get you to vote for them. They have no legal, constitutional grounds to scream like impaled pigs, and they know it, but since when has that ever stopped a reactionary from sowing fear and reaping knee-jerk support? Talk is cheap. And you know who are the experts at talking tough? Here are a few: Trump. Cheney. Every single f***ing Bush. Rumsfeld. Wolfowitz. Huckabee. Cruz. Carson. Rubio. Fiorina. All of them make war sound like it's just a schoolyard brawl. Shameless, every simplistic duplicitous one of them.

Obviously, ISIS won't present ISIS ID cards at the boarder. Obviously, the US needs to do all these checks to try to weed out any ISIS terrorists trying to sneak in, and that's what they're doing. But I'm not willing to turn away thousands of innocents that are just trying to stay alive (and turn our backs on all our ideals) because we're scared a couple of ISIS bastards might get through.

"Don't scapegoat Syrian refugees..."I'm not Catholic, but I fully endorse what the Chairman of the Catholic bishops' committee on migration, Bishop Eusebio Elizondo, said in this article:
"Instead of using this tragedy to scapegoat all refugees," the bishop continued, "I call upon our public officials to work together to end the Syrian conflict peacefully so the close to 4 million Syrian refugees can return to their country and rebuild their homes."

Something else for the Republican politicians and Religious Right folks opposed to the Syrian refugees to think about:
Matthew 2: 13-15 Now when they (the wise men) had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him." So Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt. He remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet: "OUT OF EGYPT I CALLED MY SON."
That's right. The Son of God, who these folks claim to be followers of and to know what He would do in every situation, was...wait for it...a REFUGEE in Egypt for a number of years. I bet Chris Christie would have kept him out had he been in charge, seeing as he was a Middle Easterner under the age of 5.

I bet Chris Christie would have kept him out had he been in charge, seeing as he was a Middle Easterner under the age of 5. And eventually he was homeless, jobless, defiant of the established religious leadership (Favorite image from Jesus's words: Matthew 23:27, in which he refers to the religious hypocrites as whitened sepulchres full of dead men's bones), known for consorting with a tax collector, several fishermen, and a reputed prostitute, ate dinner with a Roman, touched lepers, had a lovely conversation with a Samaritan woman, told a story in which another Samaritan proved more charitable than any of his fellow Jews, warned against the artificial status people derived from their material wealth, broke up a public execution, and generally acted in the kind of non-conventional manner that the right wing would today -- dare I say it? -- crucify him for.

There are an awful lot of so-called "men of God" and their followers who are going to be VERY unpleasantly surprised when they wind up in Hell for their arrogance, greed, ignorance and hatred (assuming that paradigm is accurate).
Cei-U! I summon the just desserts!

That anyone would take the execrable Franklin Graham seriously for even a nano-second indicates a serious lack of critical thinking skills. Substitute the word "Jews" for Muslims, or "blacks" or "Christians,"for that matter, and you'll have an idea of the slimy rock under which Graham normally lurks.

I don't have broader issues with FG the way you so, I simply agreed with the sentiment in that excerpt above. I'm not American as you may already know, but have walked around London and listened to angry muslim men in the UK shout in support of Anjem Choudary and his hatred. It's left a very bitter taste in my mouth because I see it happening over there too. Here he is with FOX's Hannity, although I wouldn't be surprised if Hannity is on your negative list too.

It's sad to me that a man of such deep faith and thoughtfulness as Billy Graham, a man who was known personally by every US president since (at least) Eisenhower and who stood with Martin Luther King, Jr. in the fight to end segregation in the South (he bailed King out of jail following arrests from demonstrating), would have a opportunistic huckster and leech such as this trading on his name and legacy.
