I was this many years old when I found out it's pronounced MUN-EL and not MONN-EL. There, I admitted it. Interesting.
On that note, on the CW Supergirl series, I think I've heard every character who said his name always pronouncing it as "Monn-El".

Where did you find this out? I still call him MONN-EL. His first appearance in Superboy #89. Superboy names him Mon-El because it's Monday. I pronounce it Monn-day...

Ah, the age-old question about Mon-El Reading the Legion as a kid I always read it as "Mahn", but then Mort and co. had this to say back in 1969's Action #382, so...

I spent almost my whole comic-life not knowing the J in Red Sonja is pronounced like a Y....and I prefer the J sound so I'll stick with that.
There, hooked-on-phonics for comics is required as well.

The discussion regarding the proper pronunciation of Mon-El reminds me of a letter I remember being printed in an issue of Marvel Age back in 1985 or 1986 asking how Uatu’s name is pronounced. The answer was “Chuck.”

It's pronounced Throatwobbler Mangrove. Tony Stark had a luxury yacht called Throatwarbler Mangrove in Iron Man #140.

from the wikipedia article:
"Monel was created by Robert Crooks Stanley, who worked for the International Nickel Company (INCO) in 1901. Monel alloy 400 is a binary alloy of the same proportions of nickel and copper as is found naturally in the meteoritic nickel ore from the Sudbury (Ontario) mines"
which makes me want to share this, something well known to most Canadians but probably not to many others:

Icctrombone mentioned in today's Zoom get together how he prefers his comic collecting in single issues versus trade collections. He enjoys the one and done singular experience and seeing an issue in it's original format with ad's and page jumps. Have to admit that really is the best and favorite way for myself as well most of the time. The exception to the rule is cost for me. When expensive costs for single issues in a run or even the entire run is prohibitive then I will go for the trades or omnibus.
I would rather have an ENTIRE series in any format if it is available than to NOT have it to read. Essentials and Showcase were a blessing for they allowed me reading much of early Marvel and DC that I would never been capable of enjoying. Recent Omnibus purchases over the last 5-10 years for me have focused on getting series that I know I would never afford digging into. Classic Doom Patrol, Adam Strange, Master of Kung Fu, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, Kirby/Ditko monster/horror/sci-fi, Marvel Conan, Usagi Yojimbo, Elfquest, Marvel Star Wars, Nexus, Grimjack and others.
But boy do I adore having a box full of western comics, war comics, archie comics, Disney comics. Opening short boxes filled with Avengers, Fantastic Four, Question, Green Arrow and others series bought new at the time triggers memories and joy of my youth spent in search of comic book gold.
I'm a comic book READER, not just a collector. There I said it.
