In my review thread for the Peter David Supergirl series I started mulling the idea of writing a fic where that series would be adapted for television instead of the Supergirl series that is about to start for real.  The more information I hear about the upcoming show the more I think it has no point.  Almost the entire cast is made up of supporting characters from the Superman comics, including the villains.  The few characters that are not taken out of Superman but are unique to Supergirl are original characters, which isn't bad in and of itself, but there are 0 characters who come from the Supergirl comics, which doesn't speak well for those comics.  They've also changed Kara's backstory so much that it is now more like Clark's backstory than any comic version of Kara.  In every continuity Kara became Supergirl as a teenager and had to deal with some teenage issues, and in 2 out of 3 continuities she had to deal with adjusting to an alien culture.  In this tv version she waits ten years until she reaches adulthood to start being a superhero-like most versions of Superman, she's already acclimated to earth culture, and on top of everything else, she works for a news agency like Clark.  With that cast and that backstory she seems to be even more like she's just Superman with a skirt than any of her comics incarnations, and that's saying something.

In the fic I am thinking of writing there would be no acknowledgement that Superman exists, and the only characters from the Superman comics to appear would be certain villains like Silver Banshee and Lord Satannus, plus with the Matrix and earth-angel aspects there would be very few similarities storywise to Superman.

Would people be interested in reading that kind of fanfiction, or should I forget it?
