Here is a very disappointing Abel/Milgrom cover: Why is Hulk's torso so long? How is he able to punch the monolithic monster, when his arm must be much shorter?

Speaking of Liefeld clones, here is Dave Hoover's idea of human anatomy: This is the guy who they also picked for the art on Roy Thomas very old school Invaders mini in the 80s. Why? Wow, Georges Perez meets Dave Gibbons, but it's all wrong !!!

Here is a very disappointing Marie Severin cover: Why is Hulk's torso so long? How is he able to punch the monolithic monster, when his arm must be much shorter? I remember seeing that cover at the Comic Book Store and that's was on everybody mind back then - it was totally bizarre cove seeing his torso that long. BTW ... Nobody at the store bought it and it's was a piece of junk back in those days and still is! I was laughing so hard when I saw this cover! ... It was at the store and everybody knew it was me and guess what I got half the store laughing too!

It would be if it were a Marie Severin cover. That's Jack Abel and Al Milgrom showing everyone why it's so difficult to draw like Marie Severin. (You can see their names on the left side of the cover. Good of them to man up.) Perhaps you should edit your post in case Dan Bailey drops by. Things could get ugly.

Oops. Don't know where I got that idea in my head. That's a reprint title, and she was probably the original artist? Edit: Nope! It reprints Hulk # 145, which is way into the Herb Trimpe era. John Severin was the original inker, though. I should read more bronze age Hulk. I've got all his Tales to Astonish stories and his first six issues in Masterrworks, but I've only read a handful of '70s issues after that.

Wasn't Marie doing a lot of cover layouts at this time?

Here's a horror cover on an issue of Detective that achieves its purpose: it is indeed a horror. I will say going in that I am not at all a Mike Grell fan: stiff figures, a narrow range of facial expressions, ugly costumes, foreshortening and perspective problems. And I will say that any artist would have trouble creating a great cover with that horrible "trade dress" up top. How much crap did they need to load up there? Just a chaotic (that ugly patched-on apostrophe s" and the floating Batman logo are a nightmare of design), unappealing logo. I like Neal Adams, but that Hawkman head is awful. Shoulda used one of Kubert's. And the nice Batman inset should have been flipped so that he faces into the book to lead the eye into the illustration and title. Yuk. Questions to ponder: Where is that casket? Is it even a casket or is it meant to suggest a door to some other dimension? How deep is it? How did that casket lid not hit Batman's leg as it flew open? Were the bats in there with the vampire? Is the vampire supposed to be scary, or is ah as surprised as Batman that the casket flew open? How long/tall is that vampire? Isn't it a good thing that cover blurb is hiding Batman's left foot, because if it weren't, we'd see that his ankle was either broken in half or that the foot was somehow leaning up against something? Is Batman's cape attached to his right gauntlet, al a pterodactyl's wing to its claw? How long/ tall is Alfred? Where the hell is this taking place? Alfred's presence implies this is in the Batcave or Wayne Manor, but then why would Batman be carrying a kerosene lantern and not a flashlight? (Context helps.)

Soooo many questions Prince Hal, and I'm sure we could find a few others, such as "why would Bats free hand hold his cape when the ohter hand already is busy with the lamp?" or "why is the casket's lid too short to close the cofin?"... really amateurish work, even I could do better!

It's not anything I'd nominate for "Worst Comic Book Cover of All-Time", but... ...Mike Grell could certainly struggle with anatomical proportions and poses at times. He also had some trouble with depicting convincing clothing, going way overboard with unrealistic fabric wrinkles, but it's really the giant woman here that bugged me the most.

This atrocity has not come out yet, but this is the cover of "Sensation Comics" #17 due out in Dec (and the final issue). HORRID. . they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing to even be used for the solicit, let alone the cover!

I realise Rob Liefeld is low hanging fruit, but this monstrosity deserves some attention:
