Shocked and saddened by this. I suppose I just assumed Bowie was immortal, like his character in "The Hunger." I was lucky to see him perform in Atlanta 20 years ago with Nine Inch Nails. He did Scary Monsters, Breaking Glass, Heroes, The Man Who Sold the World to name just a few. He was so brilliant and charismatic, and I was awed to be sitting just a few feet away. Pinched myself repeatedly that night to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Irreplaceable. I saw him on that tour as well. For as much as I enjoyed it, it likewise made me jealous of people who got to see him during the height of his career in the 70's. I can't imagine how awesome to be at his shows in person back then; I'll have to talk to my dad this week to see if he ever reviewed any Bowie concerts during that time period.

Sweet Jesus. WTF is going on? RIP, Metatron. Woah. That's two celebrities dying of cancer when absolutely no one would have seen it coming within a week of one another. Totally flabbergasted.

Too many talented people being taken from us in the past two weeks for me to process. Very saddened by all of this.

Alan Rickman was great in everything he did.

R.I.P. Alan Rickman.

Just found out that Angus Scrimm who played the Tall Man from the Phantasm films passed away on January 9. He was 89. Was always a fan of the movies and found his performances particularly creepy. His final film was Phantasm 5 due out this year. Man...the deaths keep coming. R.I.P. Tall Man "BOY-YYY!!!!!" www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-angus-scrimm-20160113-story.html

RIP to Dan Haggerty, best known for his role as Grizzly Adams. I remember seeing the film in theaters as a kid and watching the show on tv whenever I could. -M

I just had a conversation with my father about David Bowie, and he actually got to review two of Bowie's shows here in town. The first was when Bowie was in his Ziggy Stardust persona, and my dad said it was more theater than concert; a "real show" was how he put it. The second time was in the early '80s and was a straightforward concert rather than any type of elaborate stage show.
Never interviewed him, however. He said that despite numerous requests whenever Bowie came into town, he just wasn't doing many interviews, so my dad never got to do one with him.

Didn't Bowie get clean and quit drug usage at the end of the 70s? If so, the bolded part makes complete sense as I've read that elsewhere.

Have had his albums in my collection for decades. His "The only way is up" from 1980 was covered by a pop singer a few years later and became a huge smash in Europe.
