RIP Don Rickles, classic insult comedian, who passed at age 90. -M Everyone place frowns on your Mr. Potato Heads in remembrance of Goody Rickles passing. Even Darkseid is sad at this news

I met Don Rickles once on the set of Hollywood Square in 1974 - ironically it was one of his last showing on that show and I couldn't get his autograph because he was hurrying to get the center square; and I was fortunate to have to listen to him about his experiences as a celebrity those days.

Rickles was one of the funniest people that ever existed.

RIP, ya hockey puck!
Really good actor, which tends to get forgotten. He kills in guest appearances on the Dick Van Dyke Show and Gilligan's Island, and is fantastic in stuff like Kelly's Heroes and Casino. His tv show, CPO Sharkey, was actually pretty good, for its short length.

RIP John Giels, guitarist of the J. Giels band, link here NPR obit-M Namesake of the band too. . and oddly I'm seeing people mourning how they'll miss hearing the songs. I mean, Peter Wolf is still alive (not that he has sung J.Giels stuff in years). . but kind of shocking how many don't seem to know that the singer in J. Giels was Peter Wolf, not J. Giels. still.. R.I.P. to a great guitarist.

I never got to see Giels play live, but I did get a Peter Wolf Experience in the late 80s after Giels broke up. I was at a George Thorogood show in Boston sponsored by WBCN (the FM station Wolf got his start at as a DJ) and the stage backdrop was a brick wall with a wolf silhouette, and halfway through the show Thorogood brought out Peter Wolf to do a few songs with him (1 Destroyers song, 1 Wolf solo tune and a 1 Giels number if I remember correctly).
But I have fond memories of the Giels band. Love Stinks was one of the first lps I ever bought with my own money, the video for the title track was the first music video I ever saw at the house of some friends of my parents who had HBO before the dawn of MTV, and No Anchovies Please off that albums is one of my favorite novelty songs of all time. They've produced a lot of music I like. But then how can you go wrong with a band who has a member called Magic Dick who blows trumpet?

Vale John Clarke, brilliant New Zealand/Australian comedian, writer and satirist. Star of The Games, inventor of farnarkling, and one half of Clarke and Dawe - probably the finest political satire act Australia has ever produced.

RIP Dorothy Mengering, better known as David Letterman's mother, at age 95. Dorothy was a natural comedian and it was always a joy to see her on the show. The best was the 1994 Winter Olympics, from Lilehammer, Norway, where she was a "special correspondent." She'd introduce Dave to the people she had met: Nancy Kerrigan, Dan Jansen, Hilary Clinton, and Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Just a sweet and wonderful lady. Condolences to David, on what has to be the hardest birthday ever.
