I met Bob in person once when he visited Portland. I introduced him to an acquaintance who had done a lot of research on trademark registrations of pre-WWII comic books. Bob had a suitcase full of historical treasures. The two of them talked about lots of obscure and fascinating history; I was mostly an audience.

Academy Award-winning actor Lou Gossett Jr has passed away. Tons of great roles; but, for me, he will always be Gunnery Sergeant Foley..... The most accurate look at the military of the time, you will ever find and also one of the best films period. This was my guide to what I would face (in a somewhat different form, in Navy ROTC.

It's been reported across social media that artist Mark "MD" Bright has passed away. Probably best known for Icon and Quantum and Woody. I personally know him best from Green Lantern.

Couple of nice long runs: Barbara Rush ( It Came from Outer Space among many other things) has passed at 97. And one for codystarbuck: Lou Conter, the last living survivor of the sinking of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, has passed at 102.

Barbara Rush starred in one of my favorite medieval adventure films, The Black Shield of Falworth, with Tony Curtis as a rather unlikely son of a knight, who was framed and disgraced ("Is this the house of my fadder?"-even though he never says that line, in the film). Also When Worlds Collide and another favorite, The Young Lions, as Dean Martin's love interest (he's the least compelling between him, Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando). I think she can be forgiven Can't Stop The Music. She also played Jamie Somer's mother, in an episode of The Bionic Woman. And the notorious Nora Clavicle, in the third season of Batman.....

Wow, Ed Piskor is gone, suicide. Holy sh*t! Obviously on the back of the recent scandal and his having been "cancelled". I only heard about it all yesterday from commond and now he's dead. That's a terrible waste of life. While the messages he sent were definitely skeevy and really not at all appropriate, it's not like he actually did anything criminal (as far as I'm aware). Taking his life over this seems really excessive, but maybe there was more going on in the background regarding his mental health than we know? On the other hand, it could just be a case of the "Hollier-than-thou" online mob having wrecked and destroyed a life. Whatever he did with those inappropriate texts, he didn't deserve this.

To me she will always be the beautifully devious Marian from Robin and the 7 Hoods.

Yeah, saw a note about this on fb; he died on March 27, and only 68 years old. Sad news. I'm mostly familiar with his early work from the 1980s, although I've seen the material he did later after he had honed his talent. He was a damn good artist.

R.I.P. Joe Flaherty. Excellent on SCTV and just amazing as the Dad in Freaks and Geeks.

I enjoyed his roles, including his role as the commandant of the police academy in, well, Police Academy: The Series (a show I couldn’t check out again even if I wanted to because, despite the ubiquity of streaming, the show doesn’t appear to be available anywhere, not even as a rental, nor is it on DVD).
I just remembered he played the Western Union man in Back to the Future II.

Just saw the news on Bob Layton's FB page. Loved his artwork. Great talent. Beautiful "clean" art style. Loved his DC and Marvel work but his Icon and Quantum and Woody are my favorite series he worked on.

RIP to Larry Lucchino, former Red Sox owner and executive. he was 78. He was also one of the strongest champions of the Jimmy Fund, the Sox charitable arm funding the Dana-Farber Institute which fought all forms of childhood cancer.

R.I.P. Joe Flaherty. Excellent on SCTV and just amazing as the Dad in Freaks and Geeks. Awww....f@#$...... Joe was kind of the glue that held SCTV together. He was kind of the expert on the key element to grasp in impersonations and he was brilliant at them, including subtle things, like Alan Alda, just by mimicking his smile, or Henry Fonda's laconic delivery of his lines, or Gregory Peck's pacing of his dialogue. The other members credited him with giving them tricks, like pressing their tongue against the top of their mouth, when saying a word, for a particular impersonation. I guess Count Floyd can host new films of Dr Tongue, as they are re-united in low budget heaven.

From his reaction, I’m thinking it was more than texts and the other rumors are true and it was worse than just those texts with Molly. But yeah, the online mob can be cruel. But take responsibility for your actions and work on restitution and recovery. Instead, the chicken shit way he did it and the victim blaming in his manifesto is just going to rile up the angry mob of gaters and probably lead to more harm to his victims. They’re already getting increased death threats.
