Another great British actor. And another Bond veteran. He was Admiral Roebuck in Tomorrow Never Dies, which teamed him up with his As Time Goes By co-star Judi Dench as M.
He was also in multiple Doctor Who stories; most recently as Captain Hardraker in "Voyage of the Damned".

My dad loved British sitcoms on PBS over the years and I would say that "As Time Goes By" was one of his favorites.

Aw, poop.
Loved Palmer since I first saw him in the Fawlty Towers episode, "The Kipper and the Corpse," as a doctor trying to get his breakfast, while Basil and Manuel deal with a deceased guest.
When I was in college, A&E was fairly new and was like a cable version of a PBS station, carrying British comedies on the weekend evening hours. I caught a little of Palmer in Butterflies. That was a bit different o series. He also turned up as General Haig in Blackadder goes Fourth, in the final episode.
As Time Goes By was just a wonderful, gentle piece of romance and humor, as Palmer and Judy Dench are former lovers, separated by the Korean War, who find each other again, 35 years later. Brilliant writing and performances all around.
Got to see him in Reginald Perrin, later.
The Bond cameo was too small, if you ask me. I liked better his pairing with Dench on Mrs Brown, where he gets to play a more despicable character.
Tremendous actor. Some might not know that he was also a Royal Marine and was an instructor in small arms, which means he was far deadlier than the actors who played Bond.
I guess he is off to the great trout stream in the sky.

Sad news. Geoffrey Palmer was a very familiar face on tv for most of my life; Butterflies, Executive Stress, As Time Goes By... I remember even his appearances in Doctor Who and Wattry Fowles. "I'm a doctor and I want my sausages!"

Butterflies was a great show at its time, but I suspect it may not have aged well. (I haven't seen it since its original broadcast in Australia). Not that it diminishes Palmer's brilliance in it.
I was shocked when Nicholas Lyndhurst, who was one of the teenage sons in Butterflies, became one of the superannuated coppers in New Tricks.

As watchers of Jeopardy most, lately every, weeknight he will be missed a lot.
Canadians were genuinely proud to have shared him with the U.S. He got early training on Canadian schools quiz program 'Reach For The Top', as well as hosting many other shows. He was a familiar face and voice on television here regularly starting in the early '60s.

Sad news about Trebek. I know he'd apparently had some serious health issues in the past few years, but I still kind of secretly hoped he would be around forever.

I was a contestant on Jeopardy! in 1994. They make sure the contestants don't interact with Alex before the game, so there's no chance of an inadvertent hint. In my chat segment with Alex, we talked about a new thing that I was involved with - called the Internet. Didn't see much of Alex after the game either. But I'm glad I was there, and I'm glad I got a chance to shake his hand.
