Hi! Welcome to the CCF! Your username really rings a bell with me. Have you been a member here before, some years back? Or did you ever frequent either the Classic Comics or Spider-Man forums over on CBR, back before the 2014 forum meltdown? Yeah, I was pretty active on CBR, and moderated the Spider-Man forum for a while. Ah, I spent a lot of time in the Spider-Man forum pre-2014 so that's likely where I know the name from. |

Good afternoon all. I've gone by Mister Mets on various message boards. I'm a big Spider-Man fan, although I like all sorts of comics. It's dopey, but I realize that I haven't been reading that many comic books recently, and a big part of it is wanting to be able to talk about this with people. Twitter, CBR and other forums will have conversations on the latest issues of a big title, but I'm also looking to talk about other stuff. Welcome. Take a look around, there's lots of conversations on comics taking place. Dive in to any that pique your interest. Once you have 5 posts, you can start creating threads to start your own conversations as well. There's lots of review threads dedicated to specific titles or creators, there's the What Classic Comics Have You Read Recently thread that is a hodge podge of stuff people are reading (for reference sake, these forums define classic as anything 10 years or older. There's a similar thread for modern reads as well for stuff less than 10 years old). -M Cool. I'll likely get started soon. I just wanted to be clear on some of the expectations. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the preference for someone to start a new thread to discuss their thoughts on something. So if I want to cover John Byrne's post-Crisis Superman, to given an example, I'd do a new thread for my take on it, rather than add my comments on 50+ comics to shaxper's thread. I'm guessing it's also okay to go over the material any way I want. If I want to review Neal Adams' Batman stories, I can just focus on those. If someone else wants to cover bronze age Batman in order, or Dennis O'Neal's Batman, they can do all the stories. If I cover a run with a lot of fill-ins (Peter David's Spectacular Spider-Man, Peter Milligan's 1990s Batman) it's up to me whether to include the fill-ins, or whatever criteria. If my collection is incomplete, I would assume it's fair to skip stuff (IE- I have several Will Eisner Spirit and Jack Cole Plastic Man archives, but not all.) I assume it would be fine to read comics in whatever format (IE- digitally, black&white Essential/ Showcase collections, Omnibuses) or to focus on just one format (IE- to review the issues in the Showcase Doom Patrol collection.) If Humble Bundle does come some kind of weird package, I could count review the comics in that package, even if the selection may seem odd. How would we handle a run that largely counts as classic comics, but not exclusively? If I were to read Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Oeming's Powers, should I have separate threads when going over issues that are less than ten years old, or should I count it all as classic comics, or should I count it all as newer comics? My final question is on length. Some of the threads pretty much have essays for each issue. I'm guessing that level of depth is welcome, but not required. |

The best part about being around these parts is there is no real wrong way to do things. If you like Shax's Byrne Superman reviews but have more to say that he didn't cover you could easily add your thoughts there as conversation is definitely welcome even in the curated review threads. And on the other hand, if you want to do something more involved than just some brief thoughts on Bryne's run you're more than welcome to start your own thread and there are no worries there as there's nothing saying that there can't be more than one review thread for a particular run. As for a book that's run into the current era I'd say it's fair game to include it on the classic board if it began more than ten years ago; for instance I've reviewed current issues of Hellboy in my thread but because Hellboy itself started in the 90's it's okay. And whether short or long as long as you're having fun it's all good! |

As long as it doesn't violate any of the rules of the road for the site, do what thou wilt is the whole of the law when it comes to reviewing/discussing comics. -M |

Hello everyone!
My name's [REDACTED]. I'm just your dead-average [REDACTED] working in the dead-boring [REDACTED] business. Currently living in the UK, but have lived in great places like [REDACTED], and was born by the sweet seaside of [REDACTED].
Anyway, I'm on the younger side, having started reading comics sometime in 2011. I've lapsed in and out a few times since then, but regained the love once again during my university years. I seriously started collecting about two years ago, and have been participating in discussion online for about a year (if you're on comics reddit, you may run in to me sometime). I joined up here because I'm just looking for more conversation, and this place looked pretty active (and friendly).
I'm mainly a DC fan, with particular love towards its legacy characters like Cassandra Cain, Connor Hawke, the JSA, etc. I also hold some affinity towards its martial arts characters like Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva, which also extends to Marvel characters like Iron Fist and Shang-Chi.
Hopefully I fit in well! Glad to be here.

Hey everyone!
My name is Spiros Drakatos and now I've been a designer and some kind of artist for more years than not! Since the beginning, it has been all about telling stories, so I recently started my own comic Dimday_Red. Creating the world of Dimday Red and the people who live there, has been underway since the summer of 2020, and a lot more in my mind!
I really like finding new indie comics and I want to get in touch with other comic creators and share ideas and knowledge.

The "Introduce Yourself" threadI'll start. My name is Chris. On CBR, I posted under coke & comics, then my full name, then Chris N. It seems we can change our name easily here, but I'll try to keep some combination of the words chris, coke, comics in my name to be identifiable. Also I should have a Blinky avatar. I've been with CBR since 2006. At first, I posted wherever, then just Comm, Classics, and Spider-Man forums. Then just Comm and Classics. Then just Classics. I'm a mathematician by trade. I drink a lot of Coke and read a lot of comics. Got about 40 thousand sitting in a storage unit somewhere while I travel the world. I'm just learning to read comics on a kindle and have mixed feelings about it. And yourself? |
