Hi everyone! Recently, on a forum where we are discussing the last episodes of Superman and Lois, someone wondered from when Kryptonians in the Arrowerse can hold their breath indefinitely in space, after they had showed in Supergirl they coundn't do it. That sparked a discussion about the various depictions of Superman needing to breath. We remembered that after the post-Crisis reboot he could hold his breath just for a couple of hours, but now it seems he overcome this limitation. So, from when the current Superman's incarnation can remain indefinitely in space? And what about his other depictions? Like che DCAU version? Someone said that he needed a suit to travel in space. And, by the way, when exactly in the comics they showed that he can fly in space (considering that at the begin he could only leap)? In the Golden age he had any sort of limitation about holding his breath? And the first time he flew to another planet? I might be wrong, but I believe that the post-Crisis Superman received the ability to fly around in space without special apparatus in 1994. Something about how he absorbed some energy from the Eradicator during the climax of The Reign of the Supermen causing his powers to go haywire around this time. Not sure if he retained the ability thereafter, but I think I recall the titles treating this as kind of/sort of a big deal at the time. I tried to track down an issue number, but the closest I could get was to Superman #88 (1994) (and whatever issues of Action, Man of Steel, Adventures would have come out at that time) only to see that the cover of Superman 86 has him prominently floating in space as if he had gained a new power. I suspect that wherever the answer lays, it's around there.

Well, since he is a pastiche of the Spirit, and, as Jules Feiffer noted (in The Great Comic Book Heroes), the Spirit never seems to wear socks; then, no socks at all! I was not aware of that regarding the Spirit!
However, the shoes for the costume are no really conducive to not wearing socks. Besides, as a 80s teen, shoes without socks is a bit too Don Johnson/Miami Vice for my tastes.
I'll probably just go with red (I have several pairs of bright red socks for my Fifth Doctor cosplay). Or maybe buy some gold ones and alternate between the red and the gold.

What makes you so sure he wears socks? Great album, although personally I think the original British issue on Do-It Records is better. But then again, the U.S. album has the track Zerox on it, whereas the original doesn't, so that's a massive point in its favour. In the days before the Internet, it took me years to track down a copy of the British version of this album, and several years more to find the U.S. version.

Has anyone seen instructions online—video or otherwise— on how to cut down a long box to a short box? I can probably figure it out, but hoping to save some steps.

First, you buy short boxes, then, you throw out your long boxes. I've seen that too, but can't remember where.

If you have a short box onhand, unfold it and use it as a template on an existing long box. can't be too difficult.

Actually you just need the end of a long box and can use that as a template to cut a new, shorter end to the box.

Avoid the hassle just buy some folding boxes at Walmart. Cheaper and easier and will hold up better in the long run. Or do I like do: stockpile copy paper boxes from work as they empty!
I summon the cheapskate versatility!

(...) That's what I'd suggest, too. For the longest time, I indeed used a copy paper box to hold my floppy collection (that's how few I have now). When that box got too small, though, and I didn't have anywhere near enough to fill another box, I upgraded to a plastic storage box with a lid.

I converted my last three long boxes of "keepers" to short boxes, so have three pretty beat long boxes one of them is probably 30 years old or older. Didn't get any takers on a local "buy nothing" group, and don't want to trash/recycle them.

A few years ago our IT department ordered several hundred new phones for various departments around the company. The boxes they came in were made of sturdy board and I took about 50 of them.
