bryguy , where did you acquire this comic? Canada, France, Tahiti? I was living in the Seychelles at the time (a pretty remote place) and I borrowed it and others from the local library there. That's why I can't vouch for whether they would have been current then. They had a lot of French comics like this that you could borrow, such as Lucky Luke, Asterix, Tintin, and the now well-known Valerian comics.

Do you speak French? Because there are Francophone forums like this one. My French is very bad but I lurk a couple ( bdgest.com/forum in particular) and people are people the world over - I'm sure someone there will be happy to show off their arcane knowledge if they know.

My French isn't great anymore, but I can probably make myself understood. That's actually a great idea, thanks for the tip about the forum. I wouldn't have known where to look.

Just wanted to say thanks again for this! Using their library search function, I was able to stumble on the name of the comic (rather unimaginatively named Chronique d'Extraterrestres) and there was even a page from the same story that I was talking about. Didn't even have to inflict my awful French on anyone. You've helped me solve a puzzle that's been bugging me for years! Edit: Wasn't sure about direct linking to images, so I took it out.

(...) rather unimaginatively named Chronique d'Extraterrestres (...) Hey, there. Don't be so dismissive. I think "Chronic Extraterrestrials" is a pretty catchy title...

I think "Chronic Extraterrestrials" is a pretty catchy title... lol.... well it certainly would have been an interesting twist if it really was "chronic". Edit: Just in case this wasn't a joke, it's actually "Alien Chronicles".

No, she isn't right. Colossus was never portrayed as being adamantium; only Wolverine's claws and, later, bones. At least, not from creation through when I stopped reading, in the mid-80s.
Adamantium was portrayed as an artificial metal, created by mixing a couple of chemical compounds, which had to be molded quickly. Jim Shooter's Avengers prose story (from the Marvel Super Heroes paperback) covered how it was mixed, as a plot point, since the story revolved around Ultron and Scarlet Witch's ability to affect a molecular rearranger, contained within his body (which allowed him to make modifications, per the story and an Avengers comic story that preceded the prose piece).

Colossus skin has always been iron/steel. Back in Inferno, it turned out he was very effective at battling demons, because his skin counted as cold iron, a weakness of various supernatural beings in British folklore.

And - at least back when I was reading X-men regularly - Colossus could sustain injuries in his metal form, which would not have been the case if his skin had been adamantium.

Edit: Just in case this wasn't a joke, it's actually "Alien Chronicles". Yeah, I know. I'd forgotten most of the French I'd learned, but not that much.
