Hellblazer; I never got back into the series after it left Vertigo, so can only comment on those first 300 issues but recommendations (also John Constantine was introduced as a character in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, so might want to check out some of that): - Hellblazer: Original Sins by Jamie Delano will get you an intro to John as a solo character. There are some references to the events in Swamp Thing and this are mostly short standalone stories. - Hellblazer: Family Man by Jamie Delano. - Hellblazer; Dangerous Habits by Garth Ennis is probably the most popular Hellblazer story. Thanks. I don't have to start in any particular order correct? Can I just jump in point in any story, as if the stories are one and done in a couple of issues with no major long storyarc for like a let's say 2-year storyline?

Yeah, his Swamp Thing appearances and the first TPB would be recommendations. And if you can find issues 25-27 at a reasonable price, check them out. Fear and Loathing is also worth looking, but not all the contents of the TPB are. I think it would be included in the collected TPB of that particular Swamp Thing volume right?

Hi guys. Hope the CCF members here who are familiar with John Constantine, and has read some or a lot of his Hellblazer series can help me out here. I have watched the tv series, Legends of Tomorrow. And with the last couple of season enjoyed John Constantine's addition to the cast. I would like to read some but seeing there are 300 issues on the initial series. I would like to have some recommendations on which ones to read. Stories in the series that you particulary liked or appealed to you. Thanks. I think the New 52 Constantine series from 2013-2015 was really good and probably closer to his onscreen portrayal in the Arrowverse. Also the New 52 Justice League Dark sets the table for the solo series and the #0 is a Constantine issue. Can his New 52 be read without in conjunction with New 52 Swamp Thing, and just be read by itself ?

90% of Male Call was to provide some eye candy for the boys:
The other 10% was for serving lesbians?

One of the interesting things about John Constantine (at least in his original incarnation) is that the character ages in real time. Just for that it is sort of more interesting to read Hellblazer in order as much as possible. That being said, each writer pretty much did his own thing. There are plot elements that resurface from time to time, such as John having had a blood transfusion from a demon early on in Delano's run; but in effect, you're correct: you can pretty much pick up any collection and it will make sense on its own.

I was thinking about giving Hellblazer a try myself and when I was looking up the various books, I believe it said that the most recent edition of the first Delano collection also contains Constantine's Swamp Thing appearances, so you might want to look for that one rather than the older release.

Can't help you there, I didn't like the TPBs for Swamp Thing, so I only have the floppies.

Funny you should mention that. I can't find the strip in question on-line; but, there was a censored one that featured Miss Lace waking up in bed with a woman, with the word balloon stating something like "They really need to do something about those WAC uniforms!" Now, this is from memory and I saw it either in an article about the series or in a reference book. I might have it confused with the British comic strip Jane, which somewhat inspired Male Call. I'm relatively certain it was a Male Call strip that was rejected by the censor. On a related topic; some years ago, I watched a documentary on PBS about the Stonewall Riots and the Gay Rights Movement and one of the interviewed subject was a woman who served during pre-WW2, in Texas, under Eisenhower, when he commanded Fort Sam Houston. For whatever reason, he got a bee in his bonnet about supposed homosexuals on the base and was dictating an order to route them out, when this woman, who was on clerical staff, told him he would have to start with her. He was stunned and when he realized that it meant losing good personnel, he dropped the issue, though he never supported the idea of homosexuals serving openly, protected by law. In my day, which was pre-"Don't Ask, Don't Tell," good commanders ignored the obvious with top personnel who didn't try to hide their sexual orientation, so long as they kept it private. Still saw too many good people forced out because of that stupidity, before the rule and before outright protection came about (which you know who has been trying to revert).

I'd like to see that if you come across it. Pre-acceptance queer-coded subtext is fascinating.

What Comic Book Reader software do folks here prefer? When I updated to Windows 10, I had to download CDisplay again but for some reason it doesn't function the same as my old copy. This makes me wonder if I was using something other than CDisplay previously and simply forgot what I ad. I need something that can read .cbr, .cbz and .rar files.
Cei-U! I summon one of my most frequently used tools!

Does anyone know where this panel comes from? I don't recognize the character on the table at all.

Differences did take a bit of getting use to.

I only read comics/mags as .pdf or .cbr, rar. is just anything compressed into one unzippable folder I thought.
Could that be the original Human Torch in that unidentified panel?
