ooops! I didn't notice this thread and posted the same strip to Meanwhile. Oh well, at least I didn't start another thread. Long live Opus, Milo, & Bill the Cat!

Very excited about this, but also concerned that he seems to be rewriting the entire continuity after 1983, effectively erasing most of Bloom County's history, as well as anything that occurred afterward in Outland and Opus. Now Opus has simply been asleep for all that time. I get that he's trying to return to a tone and era that clicked better with the fans, but there was a lot to love in those later strips (at least up to the end of Bloom County; I liked the tone and characterization less in Outland, but it absolutely had its moments).

I've bookmarked his Facebook Page and check it out on a daily basis.

It doesn't seem that drastic to me, a 25 year nap means he went to sleep in 1990 or shortly after Bloom ended. Sure we skip Outland and Opus but for my money nothing there was as good as what came before.

I read too much into the line in the second strip about Opus being "a relic of 1983" and assumed that was the year from which they were picking up.

I thought perhaps it might have been the year he was introduced as a main character but that was 1982, so who knows why he choose 83.

My guess is that's when the comic got truly big, and it's also the point where Opus was still lovably innocent/naive. He hadn't yet begun the slow evolution that would result in his being a founding member of the Men's Couch Club.
