God Country #1-6 by Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw The protagonist Emmet Quinlan is a West Texas widower with dementia whose violent outburst are taking a toll on his son and family. That is until a demon tornado attacks and Emmet comes into possession of the magical sword Valofax which restores his mind. Emmet defeats the demon but a mythical god comes to claim the sword which he refuses to give up. Emmet defeats him but another one of the gods attacks their house with a horde of demons and kidnaps his granddaughter so Emmet is forced to go into Hell to save her. Afterward Emmet travels to the realm of the gods to confront Attum, the king of gods in a fight that threatens to tear the realm apart. This is an absolute blast, a real surprise from 2 creators Ive never heard of before...highly recommended. Seven to Eternity by Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña An interesting fantasy story with a sci-fi look about a band of magic users who unite to free their realm from The God of Whispers. However this is blast free, love Opena's art, but I found the story to be an utter chore to read. It should be right up my alley, but I'm afraid its in the wrong postcode for this 'fulla.

Seven to Eternity by Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña An interesting fantasy story with a sci-fi look about a band of magic users who unite to free their realm from The God of Whispers. I picked up the first few issues of Seven to Eternity as they came out and they were good (the first issue was great, but each successive issue less so as Remender is a master of set up but less so if momentum and payoff, Fear Agent being the biggest exception among his creator-owned stuff where he carries the promise of the early stuff forward throughout the series). I dropped it after issue 4 or 5, but was planning on checking out the trades down the road (now postponed a bit as I won't be buying much at all until after I get back to work for a few months and allow our budget to recover from the last few months, and there are a lot of other trades I would rather pick up first). -M

Has anyone read the modern Transformers vs. G.I. Joe series IDW put out a couple years ago? and is it worth checking out? The owner of my LCS pointed out to me last time I was there but didn't have time to look through it.

The owner of my LCS pointed out to me last time I was there but didn't have time to look through it. Are you referring to the Tom Scioli version or the Jae Lee World War 2 version? Both are quite good for different reasons. Each are more or less What If in telling stories which do NOT take place in either of the regular comic series timelines. Jae Lee's series is more "realistic" if you will in tone and action and not heavy sci-fi/fantasy with the action all taking place during WW II and how Cobra unleashes Megatron so the US Military creates the G. I. Joe team using Autobots as vehicular support in the war. Dark, gritty military stylized action. Lee's art is creative and wondrous to behold. Scioli's is pure science-fiction/fantasy based more upon his warped remembrances of the Joe's and the Transformers as toys and cartoons in their heyday. It is pretty much as many of us did when as kids we were playing with the toys and coming up with our own stories. Scioli got paid to draw his dreams. Some pretty insane ideas and concepts that gets a bit too silly or convoluted at times but still fun.

The Jae Lee one sounds interesting though.

I ordered the last three issues that I need to finish off my New 52 Catwoman collection. The series was pretty good after Catwoman became an organized crime boss, but it was ... I'll say uneven" ... up to about #35.
But I like what I read of the "Race of Thieves" storyline in #30 to #33. I was missing the middle two issues and I'm really looking forward to reading the whole storyline when I get all of them.
It might be a while before I decide to read the whole New 52 Catwoman series.

On a whim, I picked up Cullen Bunn's Unholy Grail #1.
I liked it a lot, but suspect I'll end up waiting for a trade paperback of issues.

Read Doc Savage: The Ring of Fire #4.
A nice conclusion to an enjoyable mini-series. One hopes the James Bondian final caption is true and Doc Savage Will Return sooner than later and hopefully with David Avallone writing.

Comixology had Letter 44 vols 1-4 on sale, so I snapped them up for about $20, thinking for some reason that it would be the entire run. But no! There's still one more volume yet to be published!
It's a damn fine series, if you can live with the art.

It's a damn fine series, if you can live with the art. I liked the first 6-8 issues but then it kind of lost its way for me right around the time I was cutting way back on what I was getting, so it got dropped. I may have to check it out in trad ethough now that it's approaching it's end. -M
