I read Heavy Metal #281 , Morrison's 2nd issue and was less impressed than I was with his debut issue. Ugh. Also read vol. 3 of Shouthern Bastards which was great.

For those interested, the Humble Bundle this week is in celebration of Dark Horse 30th anniversary. Not one complete series but a sampling of different Dark Horse titles including Conan (both the Kurt Busiek and the Roy Thomas version), The Mask, Spy Boy, Ghost, X, Usagi Yojimbo, Milk & Cheese (guess they are with Dark Horse now instead of Kitchen Sink?), Empowered, the Goon and many others. 33 different trades/comics so far, but there will be more unvealed later on)

I was pretty disappointed in Snyder's new All Star Batman, I'm luke warm on his Batman to begin with but his beginnings are usually good even if he can't stick the endings but his start here just felt really tired. It's basically a road story where Batman is escorting Two-Face out of Gotham to be held else where but Two Face puts a bounty on Batman to free himself...which is a plot that was tired in 80's when every other action flick used the premise and it doesn't look like Snyder is going to bring anything new to the idea either as it looks like he's just going to use it as a who's who of Batman's d-list villains.
I definitely won't be picking it up for a second look.

Read Rom #1 from the new IDW series. It was okay, a bit different of a ROM then I remember but that's alright. This ROM is much more dangerous, and his human sidekick Darby is interesting. Some intriguing storytelling may develop between the two, while ROM searches for the Dire Wraiths now lurking among humanity. I don't know if I'll be picking up floppies of this but I'll likely check out the TPB once it comes out to see how the series has developed. Oh and the best part? The first issue is set right smack dab where I'm living...right in between Pismo Beach and Vandenberg AFB. Don't think I've ever seen this area portrayed in a comic, so that was very cool.

I was enjoying the ROM first issue until another toy showed up at the end as part of what I consider an ill-conceived cross-over. The execution wasn't terrible in how they were introduced, but this isn't chocolate and peanut butter match made in heaven for me, more like someone tried to stick tofu inside the hamburger I was going to eat and then told me it'll taste better...

I was disappointed by their appearance as well. I guess I was thinking that they'd have an opening arc, and then move toward "Revolution".

I think they have the best superhero comics on the market.
You can't go wrong with Valiant. The more time goes on, and the more I read, the more I like them.

Catching up on my Valiants, I'm completely loving Bloodshot Reborn. Has anyone else read this ? Top notch. I've read the first arc so far, Lemire has been doing good with this new direction for the character. The ending of the Valiant left him in an interesting situation which I think was necessary. Bloodshot is an interesting character but has the danger of slipping into being a one-note character due to the usual level of violence accompanied within his books.

Finished up the third volume of Southern Bastards. Seriously good southern noir comic. Gets my highest recommendation.
