I paid around $25 each for two copies of Ms. Marvel #1. I sold one that had the bottom staple ready to detach for $50. It seems like a book poised to climb but I am happy to have a near complete run from the original series because I really wanted to read them.

everything i have is worth less now than when i bought it - skillz Pretty much The only key issue I've ever owned is my Amazing Spider-Man 129 in fine to very fine condition. And I picked that up just rummaging through 10 cent back issues as a kid in the late 70's. I don't think I've ever paid more than maybe $30 for a single issue comic. Most of the shit I've always liked isn't deemed valuable anyway.

My NM copy cost me about $3 a few years ago, wonder why this book has spiked in value? I only own the first copy though.

I assume just because she's a hot property... it was probably a smallish print run, being a new character, and I know it had LOTS of extra printings (6 or 7), so probably just a simple matter of demand outweighing supply. Interestingly, the variants (which are, I assume rare) don't seem to be worth more, which makes me thing it's that people want the story.

I resold several variants earlier today and made enough to recover initial outlay and pay for new books for the rest of the year (estimated at around 40-45) bearing in mind I get my new comics at cost price and not cover price. Customers saved $10-$15 each from current Ebay going rates. So it is a win-win with certain variant covers, especially 100:1 Quesada covers that sometimes go for as low as $5.50 if you're in the right auction at the right time.

A Captain Marvel movie has been announced which will feature former Ms. Marvel Carol Danvers, so of course her key books have to skyrocket in value. They'll probably stay high for a while, since the movie is not scheduled until late 2018.

Exactly. I am a little sad that original Captain Marvel will not be done. He is my third all time favourite after Spidey and Batman.
Batman #635 is a ridiculous book right now. Low print? Red Hood? Is it because he appeared in Gotham? Usually these characters tend to fall down after the appearance but this book is a $50-60 book.

(How many of 'em have there been, anyway? 7? 8?)

Yes the original Captain Mar-Vel! He is the best. Green suit and all, I loved those early issues and I love Jim Starlin's take. His death too is one of my all time favourite stories!
Ms. Marvel was the first spinoff I believe in the late 70's. In the 80's, a new Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel (female) was part of the Avengers and I think had her own series. Not sure what those books are like though. And after that, I have no clue what incarnations are good although supposedly the newest Ms. Marvel with Kamela Khan is quite a decent read.

I'm just not seein' a lot of Green there. And the second guy (SPLIT!) was purple.

I was talking about Kamala when I posted. As far as Marvel's Marvels.... First there was Mar-Vell. Carol Danvers was Ms. Marvel at that time. She later became Binary for a while... I THINK Sharon Ventura was briefly called Ms. Marvel before they settled on She-Thing. the 2nd Captain Marvel was Monica Rambeau, who has since changed code names as often as most change their underwear. I think she's Spectrum now? Maybe back to Photon? I find it easily to just use her name. Then there was Genis-Vell, was either Mar-Vell's son, or clone, or something.. he was Captain Marvel for a bit... then I think he shared a brain with Rick Jones for a while or something. Rick was also Captain Marvel in the Ultimate Universe... (or maybe Quasar, or maybe both). I think Phyla-Vell was Captain Marvel for a bit.. I don't recall what relation she has to Genis, but it's something. Nowadays Carol Danvers (after going through Binary, back to Ms. Marvel, Warbird, and Back to Ms. Marvel) is Captain Marvel... Kamala Khan is the new Ms. Marvel. I also vaguely recall a Kree of some sort in Young Avengers, but I'm not sure he was ever 'Marvel'-ous So that's 7.. maybe 8.

There was also a 5 issue mini series (2008) that appeared to be about a resurrected Mar-Vell, but was actually a brain-washed Skrull. Don't know if you'd count that one.

When I talk Captain Marvel, I strictly refer to Marvel's version. Apologies for not clarifying. DC's Captain Marvel or Shazam or whatever does not appeal to me at all. Never has, doubt it ever will.

I thought that too.... until I actually read it. It's actually really pretty fun, at least the few I've read... gotta get to that SHowcase one of these days...
