...but is there a way to shortcut to new posts instead of having to scroll through whole pages and/or guess where you left off?

If you click on the "new" badge instead of the thread title it takes you there, Kurt.

You can also click on the 'participated' button, that brings up a box of any threads you'd posted in, with a 'new' flag as appropriate.
